Dualshock 3 Controllers Arrive Ready To Rumble!
Sony's (be it legally enforced) decision to drop the DualShock controller, which has been around since the PS1, at the Playstation 3's launch has always been looked down upon. Sure, the Sixaxis controller has bluetooth and motion control, but it lacked a certain.... something. Rumble to be precise.
Well, starting from next week, or whenever it arrives in stores (Sony has announced they have started shipping so be on the look out),The PlayStation Blog has announced the DualShock 3 will be ready to add a bit of extra vibration to your life. Get your mind out of the gutter!
In addition to giving PS3 users the much wanted and universal rumble feature, it keeps the Sixaxis's features as mentioned in the first paragraph. And the best part? A large number of current titles in the PS3's library are ready to go, with a few requiring a patch (automatic download). Just look for the "DualShock 3 Compatible" icon on games!
At $55 US, it's a steep price to pay, but hopefully time will see a price drop and expect the Sixaxis to become cheap as chips for those who just don't care. Will you be buying one?

Funny story... Last week I picked up the Metal Gear Solid Set and I've been playing through all the new (for me) content in Substance and Subsistence. Anywho, when I got to the Snake Tales part, they take away your radar and give you a handy little AP Sensor (ingame item that shakes as you approach enemies). So I quickly equip it and run off into action. I soon discover that the enemies are able to spot Snake as if he's wearing a bright pink taffeta. I get upset for a moment and say to myself, "What gives? I have the AP Sensor up." I look down to my dismay and remember that the SixAxis doesn't believe in last gen technology.
I want rumble back. Badly. That portion of MGS2 is nearly unplayable without it and I'm sure that plenty of the PS3 I already own that would greatly benefit from it. But I'm not sure if I'm ready to put down $55 just for something that came standard with their last generation of hardware. It leaves me with the same bitterness I had with the 360's wireless adapter (paying $99 for bits that come for free on a DS, hooray!)and Wii's bizarre "Nunchuk sold separately" controller prices. As miffed as I am, I'll end up caving like I have with those mentioned above, paying something that should have been inside the box to begin with.
How is the $55.00 a steep price to pay? It is only $5.00 more than non-rumble SIXAIS, and $5.00 less than Nintendo's Wiimote w/nunchuk.
Speaking of Nintendo, they have to be the worst on controller price gouching. Wiimote, nunchuck, Wii Wheel, Wii Zapper, Wii Classic Controller, and a Game Cube controller (the best way to play Smash Brothers.
Compared to the array of controllers my Wii requires $55.00 is a steal.
Now if only they'd drop the motion controls and patch all games that require it to work without it and admit that it was a huge mistake that was thrown in last-second to try to steal Nintendo's thunder.
I hate motion controls when they're done well like on (about 1% of) Wii games, when they're on SIXAXIS, they're utterly intolerable.
As for PS3 controllers, I got a Logitech wireless that matches the one I had for PS2 and it's amazing. Superior in literally every way to Sony's design.
@ibeetle: I meant for something that should of been included from the very beginning. Otherwise the costs is fair
I'm glad Sony has rectfied this situation although it SHOULD come with buying a PS3 instead of the rumbleless ones.
It was probably done on purpose, knowing people would put out for the rumble. If it wasn't it, may have been a Sixais issue during motion control parts of games. Either way I'm glad it's finally here as much as it would have been nice to see it in the 1st place with the system. Not much we can do about getting ripped.
