Men Are From Sony, Women Are From Nintendo (A.K.A Math With Mog)
This is interesting. While it's no surprise that Nintendo in recent years have been pushing hard to get the girls on board with their products (Pink DS anyone?), I never really suspected that it would become the main domain of of women (at least in Japan), as the following survey carried out by telecommunications company Net Asia Co points out.
The survey, conducted with 401 (what an odd number for a survey) mobile phone users, asked participants to name what handheld consoles they played, and breaks down as follows:
Females
Nintendo DS Lite: 52.2%
Nintendo DS: 27.4%
PSP: 8.8%
GBA: 6.7%
Game Boy: 3.4%
Males
Nintendo DS Lite: 30.3%
Nintendo DS: 16.8%
PSP: 42%
GBA: 6.7%
Game Boy: 5.3%
For those of you can't be bothered getting your calculator, that's around 47.1% of men and 79% of women who favor the DS platform.
The information shows us a few things; firstly and most obviously, that Nintendo's re-design helped alot, as the difference between the two models is much greater (stat-wise) with females than it is with males. Also, males seem to have a greater retro sense, with more choosing the older GB handhelds (which actually surprises me. Did they mean the actual GB itself or playing GB games through backwards compatibility).
Why more men than women are playing the PSP I have no idea. Could it be because of it's "grown up" attitude? It's multimedia features or just it's game library? Let us know what you think in the comments section!
