Video: Metroid: SR388
I'm not one to post videos too often, in fact this is the first one I have posted in my tenure here; however, when I saw this video over on the Destructoid site, I was fairly impressed. What is shown above is a trailer for an upcoming 'Metroid' game using game assets from Super Metroid as a base and then building on from there. In fact, you can see a few of the updates to weapons, graphics, and animations just in the short trailer. While it may use assets from SNES game, it doesn't seem to be a remake of the game. The 'SR388' in the title of the game, though, leads me to think that the new game may be a retelling of the GameBoy game, Metroid II: Return of Samus, where Samus heads to SR388 to destroy the metroid species. All in all, the game that they are working on looks fantastic and I hope that they get to finish it in the near future.
Metroid: SR388: Best fan made game EVER! [Destructoid]

Looks like a remake of Metroid 2 to me. Spider ball was in there, and also remixed music from the game. Little bit of "The Tunnel" in there. I think that's what that track was called. At least what it's called on metroidmetal.com
Looks good, too bad Nintendo isn't making this!
Looks impressive. But how have they not received a cease and desist letter yet? Boggles the mind...
Just because it takes place on planet SR388 doesn't make it a Metroid 2 remake. Also, regarding the C&D thing: there are millions of fangames out there, and have been since the internet got it's legs. Nobody cares about a strictly non-commercial fangame. There is no logical REASON to care, unless someone does something foolish like clone a game directly (akin to distributing a rom), or try to do a remake of a game.
Heck, not even the fan remake attempts get C&D. The only C&D's that N has ever issued to a fangame were the imaginary creations of people who needed an excuse to quit their project while keeping their street cred. It's all hogwash.
