Microsoft Hasn't Forgotten About HD DVD... Aw, Bless.

Well, pretty much the entire world has written off HD DVD, but for whatever reason, Microsoft is still producing an update. Xbox LIVE's Major Nelson posted today on his site that if you own an Xbox 360 HD DVD player, you'll be prompted for an auto update the next time you try to watch an HD DVD movie. The update will auto download from Xbox LIVE if you're signed in, or if you'd like, you can get it at Xbox.com later this week. What could this update possibly include? Well, how about "compatibility improvements with certain titles" and "additional support for network features." (Unfortunately, it doesn't turn your HD DVD drive into a Blu-ray player.)
Well, points to Microsoft for not turning their back on HD DVD completely, but honestly, was this really worth the effort? (Seriously you all thought you were done reading about HD DVD, didn't you? Admit it!)

Wow... MS dropped the original X-box like a bad blind date when 360 barely came out to the public. I was expecting the same with HD-DVD, I mean it's just an add on that sold poorley, and all it contributes is playing movies on a format thats been pronounced dead. Why the love?

I for one appreciate the love.
