Namco-Bandai Editor Day - Soul Calibur IV

Yesterday afternoon, Fruit Brute and I traversed the tangled streets of San Francisco to make our way to The Mighty. While normally I would expect to be seeing something similar to the Varla Jean Merman performance at this same venue, like I did just last week; however, this time we were in for a different treat. Namco-Bandai had rented the place out to show all the lovely press a few previews of many of their highly anticipated games. The big headliner from the Namco-Bandai event yesterday was, of course, Soul Calibur IV. After watching a stunning cinematic of the game and all of its luscious 3D fighting beauty, Namco dropped the big bomb on us, Soul Calibur IV now has a definitive release date, July 29th, 2008. That's right, just a little over three months away until you can go to town kicking each other's gaygamer butts.
Speaking of butts, we got to see the posteriors of both Darth Vader and Yoda in action during the fight sequences they showed us on the big screen, and let me tell you, it looked fantastic. As was noted a few weeks back, Vader will be gracing the PS3 version of the game and Yoda will be on the 360. We were told at the conference that the decision as to which character was on which system was mainly based on box art colors (well aren't they fabulous). The developer then went on to tell us that both Yoda and Vader play fantastically in the game, as if they were always part of the cast.
One last tidbit of information that they let drop at the event was that there will be Limited Edition of the Game to be released at the same time as the normal edition. They mentioned that the limited edition of the game will come in a special tin and have an artbook, t-shirt, and some type of specialized downloadable content coupon inside. Mmmmm... sounds yummy. I'm sure there will be more info coming out on it shortly.
I was able to get some hands-on time with the game after all the trailers and main press talk was over, and let me tell you it is everything you can imagine it to be. On the demo we got to choose between the four vixens of Cassandra, Taki, Seong Mi-na, and newcomer Hilde. Having always been attracted to girls with long weapons, I choose to play with Seong Mi-na. After playing a few rounds, I can honestly say that this game feels like a rightful successor to the Soul Calibur lineage with all the glitz and glamor that the next-gen consoles bring with them. I'm very excited that we finally have a date to mark on our GayGamer calenders, only unbearable part is waiting.

There's an awesome new trailer for Soulcalibur IV at GameTrailers, apparently shown at the Editor's Day.

For crying out loud maybe i should make the game. I wouldn't have put SW charaters in..
but since they are there i would have put in Spawn, Link, Hihachi etc. Continuity people and of course Afro Samurai need I say more?
As much as I love Soul Calibur IV.....OMG Wasn't Varla Jean hilarious!?!!? We caught the Seattle performance last weekend...amazing!
