Nintendo Media Summit: WiiWare: World of Goo
The second day of the Nintendo's Media Summit was all about WiiWare. Kyle Gabler and Ron Carmel aka 2D Boy wowed them at the IGF Awards this year with their amazing physics based adventure game, World of Goo, taking home two awards. The first chapter of the game was made available for the PC and once I played it, I absolutely fell in love. It's the perfect game for the Wii and I'm thrilled to see the 2D Boys rolling out their genius work on such an accessible platform.
In World of Goo, you must use sticky goo physics to get your little blob of goo friends from one end of the level to a little pipe at the end that will suck your goos up and send them to their mysterious greater glory. Describing the gameplay is actually a bit difficult and is much easier to understand when you see it actually being played. (Check out the new trailer above to see what I mean) Suffice it to say that the controls are very intuitive and it won't take long before you're building goo towers to the sky.
The art style is cartoony and gorgeous and the original music by Gabler is a perfect compliment to it. The whole thing gives me the feeling of the early work of Tim Burton combined with the music of Danny Elfman and that is a great feeling indeed. When you see this title available for purchase on WiiWare, download it right away. World of Goo is what independent gaming is all about.
