Nintendo Media Summit: WiiWare: Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life As A King

Square Enix was on hand at Nintendo's Media Summit to show of their WiiWare title, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life As A King. I watched the presentation and was able to pick up a few things about the game that I didn't know before. My Life As A King is not your typical Final Fantasy RPG game. As a matter of fact it's not an RPG at all. It seems to play more along the lines of Dark Cloud, having the player concentrate on city building rather than stat building. If I could call a few more games to mind, I would call it a combination of Civilization, Animal Crossing, The Sims and the Tycoon games.
Players will be the ruler of their own little kingdoms and with the help of citizens and assistants, you can build the city to be whatever you want. You can also send helpers to do dungeon exploration for you to bring back materials that can be used to forge better weapons and buildings. Dungeon exploration is done off screen though, so if you are looking for that kind of experience, it's not to be had here.
The art style is very cute and much like other Crystal Chronicles games. The animations for the building construction is fun to watch as well as everything happens at lightning speed. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life As A King is definitely aimed at a specific audience and if city building and management is your thing, you will find much to do in this WiiWare title when it hits this spring.

Despite how cute the Female Avatar is, I suppose "My Life As A Queen" would be a completely different game, huh?
Oooooh, looks cool! My only worry is that it will be a short experience for the money. Fruit Brute, did you see how the game is controlled?
The woman's not an avatar, but an aide to the king. Saw that in a trailer, if I remember correctly.
I'm undecided if I'm disappointed by what this game turned out to be or not. I really wouldn't have minded a normal FF:CC game on Wii, just smaller scale.
I'm worried about over-ambitious features and pacing. If they bite off more than they can chew for such a different project, or if everything happens too slowly, I won't want to bother.
