Rumor: The Darkness Sequel On The Way?

Last year's Starbreeze shooter The Darkness didn't exactly cause an avalanche of critical or commercial love, which was kind of a shame. It wasn't a perfect title, it seemed overly ambitious in places, but it did a lot of little things right, and eventually ended up sneaking onto my list of the year's best. I never tried the multiplayer, where I guess a good chuck of the, uh, antipathy towards the game was centered. When it was over, I wanted more, which is always a good sign. The story definitely left room for a sequel, and considering it was adapting a long running comic book, I figured there was a lot of material left to cover. As part of the Top Cow Panel at the New York Comic Con this weekend, one of the company's big wigs announced that it looks like they'll get their chance.
We can't say DARKNESS and video game sequel in the same sentence. So, DARKNESS. Wink. Sequel.
Ah, the non-announcement announcement. Fun. At the same panel, the company also revealed that they is "strong interest" in turning their Witchblade, Magdalena, and Aphrodite IX properties into video games, and a title is already in the works for their book Hunter/Killer, although no other details were given.
Right now Starbreeze are working on The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, a remake of the Xbox Riddick game. Assuming that's nearing completion, the company could have already started working on The Darkness 2, or an entirely different company could be handling the sequel. As long as they've mastered the subtle art of heart devouring, I'm on board with whoever is making this game.
