Rumor: Top Brass Leaving Retro Studios
Not minutes after posting about the fan-based remake of Metroid, I noticed a rumor about Retro Studios circulating around on a couple of sites. From the sounds of it, it started with a comment posting on Surfer Girl's website of the juicy rumor that "Design Director, Art Director, and Tech Director at Retro Studios were 'escorted out the door' on Friday the 18th." Then yesterday Shacknews upped the ante by confirming that "Design director Mark Pacini, art director Todd Keller, and principal technology engineer Jack Mathews were escorted off the premises last Friday." but the studio is not in danger of closing. The article also mentioned that these three might be starting their own studio, which is fairly common.
It appears that MTV Multiplayer decided to take it one step further go to Nintendo and ask them for a "Retro status update" to ensure that the Studio is still in good regards with Nintendo and Nintendo's response was:
"Nintendo doesn't comment on rumor."
Which really doesn't tell us much of anything, but it doesn't confirm that Retro Studios is sitting 100% fine. Hopefully more news will be coming shortly, but you never know what the case may be. I guess if there's a crisis they can always just turn to th fan community and what they are making.
