Rumorama: New DS Revealed At E3 This Year

News doesn't get much more tentative than this, but the Enterbrain (famous for things like RPG Maker) speculates that Nintendo is planning on revealing a new Nintendo DS model at E3 this year.
Nintendo responded with "No Comment".
Silence in the game industry usually means that either: they are going to milk the free press so people spend more time in the Nintendo booth or they are actually working on it. Either way it's really the word of one company big wig over another. What could we possibly expect to see? Possibly a new system (DS2?) or a smaller, slimmer model without the Gameboy Advance slot (this one has been speculated on before). Who knows. Lets hope there is some merit to this.

I doubt a DS without a GBA slot will be out since makers are now utilizing it for items like a knob for Arknoid, or use in the upcoming guitar hero game.
A DS with backwards compatibility with all GB games maybe. Or another redesign where the hinge is almost gone or reworked to allow the display screens to almost touch to create a larger screen. Or possibly DS2 with two touch screens.
I would treat the discontinuation of GB/GBC games at Gamestop to be a pretty good sign that Nintendo's not going to expand their backward compatibility on the DS. If anything, they might ship GB/GBC emulation in the firmware and provide a gig or two of internal storage for a DS "virtual Game Boy".
I also can't imagine that they'd get rid of the GBA slot due to their peripherals, but then, a lot of GBA peripherals didn't work on the SP or Micro, so who knows. If they keep the GBA slot, there's no need to get rid of GBA game compatibility since the GBA's hardware is basically a subset of the DS.
