Analyst To Microsoft: "Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad"

The posturing for first place in the video game industry has been a tried-and-true staple for every ounce of gaming news since the late 1980s. While it is perfectly normal, and genuinely expected, that a major corporation will trumpet their product as being the best, Microsoft has taken great strides to position the Xbox 360 as being the ruler of the market. Analytical loverboy Michael Pachter, in a recent OXM Podcast, laid out his opinion on Microsoft's attitude, and he's got some sobering words for the team:
"I personally think that, with a lot of respect for the Microsoft guys...I don't mean to diss them at all...I think they're foolish to even worry about who's first and who's second. I think that's just stupid.""I don't ever hear Activision or Ubisoft saying that they just hate being second or third and that they envy EA so much that they can't stand it. They both make a lot of money, and are very happy to thrive."
"You can be second or third and still make a buttload of money," he continued.
"I don't understand why Microsoft has to be first. It is part of their DNA, but they really don't need to be first if they're profitable. To finish first and lose a few hundred million dollars a year is a bad idea. To finish third and make a few hundred million dollars a year is a good idea."
With a robust market that seems to be showing no signs of stopping, it is becoming increasingly apparent that there is plenty of pie available for each company to thrive.
