Square-Enix Does Horror On The DS: Nanashi no Game

Nintendo DS survival horror, can it happen? Square Enix would have us believe so. Details of their elusive title Nanashi no Game (Nameless Game, so spooky) were released in the most recent issue of Famitsu. The game follows the general formula of Japanese horror cinema. There is an accursed game that kills anyone who plays it in seven days, probably played by Naomi Watts. I kid, but seriously, that is the story.
The game features a game within a game, which players will most likely have to beat to survive the curse. There is a fake Nintendo DS menu which will taunt players with spooky messages and various other tools to incite fear in whomever plays it. So far, it's sounding like a weird combination of Game Center CX, The Ring, and Stay Alive, with maybe a dash of Trace Memory. Lets just hope that they don't follow the Stay Alive trail too much. That movie was a stinker.

This sounds exciting and can be potentially really scary. Square-Enix hadn't done anything terribly wrong yet so this could be a decent effort for the genre. Playing the game and having a ghost haunt you sounds like genius.
Post-jack: Has anyone here played Game Center CX? I'm so tempted to import but not sure how language heavy the game is.
Sounds interesting. It can't possibly be worse than the Ringu Dreamcast game...
game-boi: I played it and NEARLY beat it. The game varys in it's level of language usage. There is tons of unimportant dialog, and most of the menus can be navigated without much trouble. The problem is figuring out the goals, (there is a handy dandy guide on wired's gameblog)
The only other point is the dragon warrior clone. That can be a bit of a struggle to play, but you can more or less cludge your way through it.
