Star Wars: The Force Unleashed - Update

SW_Force_NaughtyMotion.jpg

Ah yes, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed for the Wii, where all Star Wars gamer-fans hope that their life long dreams of truly brandishing a lightsaber with realistic control might be achieved. About a month ago Toots treated us to a lovely gameplay videos of flying stormtroopers holding hands, showing off the beauty that is the Euphoria engine and the other graphics and physics tech goodies that make up the game. Now, in a recent preview by GamePro, some of the motion controls for the Wii system have been revealed and detailed. In the preview, they have a detailed illustration (posted after the jump) that shows how you can use the Wiimote and Nunchuck to do Jedi tasks ranging from the simple Lightsaber Swing to the more sophisticated Force Repulse. They've even included a Wii-only move called the 'Force Maelstrom' in which you charge up your force energy to then release it in a devastating radius around your character. Just reading through the moves has my lightsaber ready for action.

Also in the article is a list of all the characters (27 in all) available for one-on-one battle in 'Duel Mode', which should add a very interesting experience to the game. The preview then goes on to mention that while the motion controls are only present in the Wii version of the game, the 360 and PS3 versions should not be dismissed, since they will definitely have crisper graphics. This leading me to ponder which of the two features will actually cause a particular system to ship more units, motion control or enthralling graphics? The cynic side of me says that it will probably most likely come down to whichever system has a higher install base in Star Wars target demographic. ;)

Follow the jump to see the full list of motion controls.

As cool as this all sounds, sacrificing all the sweet graphics and probably most of the physics from the demos (I don't care much for the Euphoria-sticky-trooper-feature, but those swaying "trees" and the flaying crates were awesome. If they implement "silent assassin"-type missions, I'm so there!) for the chance of doing a force push by pushing my controller forward is not gonna cut it. Perhaps the PS3 implements some motion controls as well?

Call me a nitpicking nonce if you will, but there's nothing cynical about pointing out the blindingly, blindingly....... Blindingly obvious

It's exactly like stating "cynically I believe Star Trek fans will watch episodes of Star Trek at a higher frequency than people who do not like Trek" There's nothing cynical about matter of fact.

Colour me disenfranchised, for no particular reason.

There's still something to be garnered from seeing which sells more among people who own both a Wii and a 360/PS3.

Though, I don't imagine there's any way to actually know those numbers.

Personally, I think I, owning both a Wii and a 360, will probably get it for the 360. Though, the boyfriend will probably want it for the Wii...

Watch us end up with two copies. >.<

All I can say is that every time I see something new from any of the Force Unleashed console versions I get a little more excited to play it regardless of platform. I think it's got a really good to chance deliver an interesting story, if told right.

Besides, everyone thinks the Wii motion controls are a sham... :)

I knew the Wii wasn't going to have the amazing physics of the Xbox360 and PS3 version, but I didn't realize it would get a unique move, a dueling mode and 3 exclusive levels for it! Now I don't have to break down and buy a 360!

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
