What Are You Waiting For?

Last week, when I brought up the No More Heroes sale at Amazon, I said, "Everyone needs to prioritize now and then" when it comes to deciding what games to buy right away, and what games stay on the shelf until the price drops a few bucks. Unless you're Rich Uncle Pennybags (or you're dating him), no doubt it's a question you've had to ask yourself more than a few times. It can get tough if you're the type to worry about getting spoiled or left behind when everyone else is playing the newest and the now-est. Obviously there are some games we'll always be in line for on the first day, and others that we'll refuse to pick up until they've hit budget status. How do you draw that line?
I don't consider myself a fanboy, but I'll admit that I usually grab Nintendo titles I want in the first few weeks. They don't drop in price very fast, and the $50/40 Wii, $35/30 DS I'd spend already feels like a value compared to most PS3, Xbox 360, and PSP games. I'll also pick up anything interesting from Atlas or NIS right away, not necessarily because I want to play them right away, but because if I don't I may not see the game in print again for some time.
So what's on your price drop wish list right now, what are you willing to pay, and when do you just give up? Personally, I'm probably going to wait until Apollo Justice, Condemned 2, and (sorry Final Fantasy fans) Crisis Core each fall about $10 to $15 before I take the plunge, and that's assuming I can't borrow them from a friend or they don't come up in my GameFly queue first. I've got a friend who's waiting patiently for Gears of War to drop more than $5, but I have a feeling that he'll probably cave in before Gears of War 2 hits stores.

I'm waiting for Heavenly Sword to drop; it interests me but not enough to pay full price for it. Generally speaking, I think the prices of PS3 and Xbox 360 games are just a little high for me to get them right away. I'd be more prone to "impulse" buying if the prices were even $10-$15 less than retail.
I've been waiting for a Gears of War price drop too. What's up with MS taking so long to turn things into Platinum Hits? I didn't have an Xbox when the game first came out and paying full price now feels like a rip off.
I'm also waiting for a MySims price drop. Looks cute, but not cute enough for $50.
I have already pre-ordered a copy of GTAIV (non premium version thankyou) and I will buy Fallout3 the day it comes out too. I would do the same for MGS4 and Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm too, but I need the PS3's price to drop first. Everything else this year I will probably rent or borrow.
Heavenly Sword is purely a rental title - it can be finished and then some over the course of an afternoon.
GoW seems to be the worst offender in milking the price tag of a game..
I know somebody's going to call me a troll or fanboy but - I'm still waiting to buy a 360. I really want to buy one with 4 controllers so I can play Ikuraga with my son, or the 4 player Ninja Turtle remake with my kids - or REZ with all four controllers laying across my body.
But I'm waiting for the new chipsets, for the return rate to drop so I don't have to worry about red rings of the death and the like.
Otherwise, I figure I'll pick up Drake's Fortune once it drops to about $30 - maybe by then I'll be more caught up on my backlog :(.
I will only buy a game on day one if it's something I don't want ruined for me. Final Fantasy (main series) is always a must buy. MGS4 is preordered. The only other game I bought this year on day 2 was Prof. layton. I got Crisis Core and Brawl through gamefly (27 and 40) which felt like steals.
I'm usually tempted to grab Atlus titles on release day as well but I've found if you wait 4 months it will drop in price and then skyrocket. Or have a friend hide a copy at kmart as they always clearance them within 4 months as no one buys them who shop at kmart.
I'm waiting on a 360 too. Hardware issues, want to see if FF13 stays PS3 exclusive, and the price to drop (I dont want a HD-less version).
My cheaper Wii and DS have already given me a lot of value for my buck.
I recently did get Pokemon Diamond when it dropped 10 bucks, but the next few games on my to get list (Metroid Prime 3) I realize will probably never drop in price so...
The next game I'm buying at all is also one that I'm buying first day: Metal Gear Solid 4. Otherwise I still have a huge backlog of DS and PS2 games to finish, and I've still not completed Challenge Mode in Ratchet and Clank Future.
Besides, I'm still playing Team Fortress 2 almost nightly, because that game is just a blast to play and I always spend at least 2 hours on it, if not more.
Like Stevie and John Hummel, I haven't got a 360 yet for the same reasons they mention. I have a feeling I might end up getting a PS3 instead for its Blurray capabilities and its exclusive games.
I think FF13 will stay exclusive because Squaresoft Enix has a very good record of keeping them exclusive. They might make a FF game for the XBox, but it won't be X13.
Condemned 2 is 40 bucks this week at circuit city in case anyone is interested. Just passing along the deals.
I am waiting to buy Condemned 2 until it's in the $20-$30 range, I think... I haven't even finished the first one, yet, so that's my main priority as far as that's concerned.
Talk about CHEAP >.
dont mind spending 20 bucks on a game, but waiting a year for it to go down 10 - 15 bucks? still waiting for Gears of War to go down to that price? or halo 3? Good luck >.>

Wow, that was fast.
Maybe next weekend I'll post about how I'd really like a pony, or a pile of shiny gold coins, or a sequel to Grim Fandango...
Here's a few of the gamefly "keep it" prices on some of the aforementioned games. If I end up making a purchase 9 out of 10 times I milk the "keep it" option. The prices are pretty competitive the condition of the games far surpasses most used game outlets.
Gears of War $41.79
Apollo Justice $21.84
Condemned 2 (Xbox) $40.84 (PS3) $42.74
Crisis Core $31.34
Heavenly Sword $33.24
My Sims (Wii) $34.14 (DS) $23.74
Drake's Fortune $36.09
