GTA IV Breaks Records. Ah Duh!

71015.jpg

In a revelation that will surprise exactly... um, no one, Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto IV broke entertainment sales records. In its first week, it sold about 6 million units, which totals around $500 million in sales. Jinkies! And what's even crazier than that? The game sold 3.6 million of those units on opening day to earn $310 million globally.

"We knew Grand Theft Auto IV would break new ground in terms of the player's experience, with its compelling story line, extraordinary gameplay and action that ranges over a broad urban canvas. Now, it has broken sales and rating records as well. Grand Theft Auto IV's first week performance represents the largest launch in the history of interactive entertainment, and we believe these retail sales levels surpass any movie or music launch to date. We congratulate the entire Rockstar team on creating a must-have experience that takes the legendary Grand Theft Auto franchise to a new level," said Strauss Zelnick, Chairman of Take-Two.

And while there's no equivalent US press release, apparently over in the UK, the Xbox 360 version is outselling the PlayStation 3 version by 20%. I've read around the interwebs that Microsoft is trying to pull the same claim here, but without definitive sales numbers to back it up. I'll let you know if I find any, though!

Am I one of the only people that is greatly dissapointed with GTA IV?? The main game is repeatative like all previous outings, The online is terrible, and the driving (the main part of the game) is so bad I find it almost unplayable (I thought I was a good driver with having achieved 100% and all achievements on Burnout Paradise).

Sure the game is pretty and lots to do, and I like the radar system for losing the cops... but it just doesnt bring anything new to the table for me and certainly not worth the 10/10 marks more a 7 in my book. I feel cheated having forked out £45 (approx $90) for the standard edition (yeah we get ripped off in the UK) amd would'nt recommend it to anyone.

any other thoughts? does anyone else have similar feelings about this title? or am I alone on this one?

I have enjoyed the game a great deal. Not only the driving but also the story.

The online aspect is amazing.

I am not normally 'good' anymore at online multiplayer stuff, but there are modes that even I have fun at. It is nice to be able to team up with people who are real pros and with much higher gamer scores and still have fun.

I can't see anything on the horizon that will topple GTAIV, it really is that good, the missions, the graphics, the driving, the shooting, the online is all exemplary, a ridiculous level of refinement accross the board.

Barring perhaps MGS4, just give out the game of the year award now.

It's exceeded my expectations completely accross the board, and I had high expectations before the release, quite literally a 9.5/10 on the scale, worthy of a 10, perhaps not 9.95 though, absolutely.

Worth every penny of the £45 I paid.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
