Konami Gamer's Night: Dance Dance Dance Revolutions

2008 actually marks the 10 year anniversary of Dance Dance Revolution making its debut in Toyko Arcades. After the dizzying success it had in arcades, a few years later they decided to move on up to the console (east) side and start the crazy trend that has had people dancing in their homes for years to come (and the gay community has never been the same since). Since then it was first release, DDR has produced over 20 different versions of the title on a multitude of different platforms. Now, on their anniversary they've decided to celebrate by launching three new DDR titles this year on three different platforms, each with it's own unique set of features:

DDR X (PS2) - The classic DDR system gets the namesake anniversary title game. This title boast over 70 songs for players to play, and I'm sure that while most of them are brand new a few of them are party pleasers from previous titles. One cool new feature they've added to this iteration is that you now have the ability to hook multiple PS2s together through their LAN connections and can have 8 players playing against each other at the same time. They've also added a 'Workout' mode that will allow you to create your own workout and fitness routines on the game.

DDR Hottest Party 2
(Wii) - The Wii version of the game allows for up to 4 people to play together with a smattering of songs from the past 4 decades, such as "We Got the Beat" by the Go-Go's, "Umbrella" by Rihanna, and "Black or White" by Michael Jackson. At the same time the game has a mode that will let you battle other players using the Wii-mote and a 'Course' mode that has themed song lists. On top of all of this you can use your own Mii character on your Wii as you avatar in game and then you can see grandma's Mii character crazily smile at you as she hands your butt to you yet again (that woman has moves).

DDR Universe 3 (Xbox 360) - The 360 offering brings with it the normal 70 song array of tunes reaching all the way back to the 70s. Along with that it has online multiplayer play using Xbox Live, therefore allowing you to challenge friends around the globe and keep track of your standings. On top of all of that, the 360 version is also coming with a 'DJ Mode' in which you can create your own avatar from a wide array of character and cloth offerings and also create and mix your own tracks for the game. I'm actually kind of excited to see just how much control they give you in making remixes of songs.

Well there you have it, 3 DDR games, 3 separate systems, and more than three unique features to set each apart from the others. I've never been much of a DDR person myself, but these latest offerings have me wondering if maybe I should buck that trend. For all you enthusiasts out there, expect all these games to drop around the same time in the Fall season, and be ready to shake your groove thing.

All the music game news has me squealing like a school girl. Now if hell froze over and Square-Enix confirmed another Bust A Groove game, I would've had a heart attack. Anyway, I've been a DDR freak for close to 9 of the 10 years DDR has existed. I'm most excited for X. The new stages and characters look awesome. ^.^

Uh - where the hell is the PS3 version? I'm debating purchasing some PS2->PS3 DDR pad adapters but - seriously, WTF? There should be a PS3 version, with all of the downloadable songs and other goodies. What's taking you so long, Konami? Come on - some USB plugs and we're all good!

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
