Konami Gamer's Night: Metal Gear PS3 Bundle
As can be imagined, the main flagship shown at the Konami event was Metal Gear Solid 4. They had tons of stations setup to play through the story and to also play Metal Gear Online. Both were fantastic to play and very true to the previous games and their gameplay; however, the highlight was watching Hideo Kojima demo parts of the first act of the game to everyone during the presentation. He ran us through the ten minute intractable opening cinematic and then started going through a great deal of the gameplay mechanics. He showed how you can win favor with either of the two faction warring in the game to make stealth and diplomacy that much easier (or difficult) for Snake. He also demoed how the use the octocamo and disguises to also sneak and get to where you need to in the game along with the return of the cardboard box and the new oil drum to hide in plain daylight. The binoculars in previous games have been replaced with the solid eye and night vision, which makes finding all the hidden items and tracking enemies even easier. The most impressive part was all the different weapons you can purchase from your friendly arms dealer and then upgrade with the wide variety of scopes, laser sights, grenade launchers, and other attachments available in the shop. Kojima even showed us a 'rare' and expensive weapon, the Tanegashima Rifle, that has a chance to shoot a Kamikaze wind when fired (just watch out for the long reload time).
The demo Hideo Kojima gave was fantastic, but the other tidbit of information that was dropped into our eager baby bird mouths was that there will definitely be a PS3 bundle of the game released and the bundle will include a limited edition version of the game, a gunmetal grey PS3, and a dualshock PS3 controller; however, the bundle will be very limited in quantity and only available on konami.com. Look to pre-order this bundle starting May 19th online.
