New Prince Of Persia To Be Inspired By Everything You Love

That's right, everything. In a recent Joypad magazine interview, New Prince of Persia creative director Jean-Christophe Guyot went crazy by name-dropping a ton of beloved video game series as direct comparisons of what Ubisoft Montreal's project is aiming for. I must say, they are indeed ambitious.
- Ubisoft management were originally concerned that America would not be able to appreciate the new art style.
- The primary developmental difficulty has been in ensuring that they were not inadvertently creating Assassin's Creed 2.
- The plot features a corrupted world, inspired by the Persian classic One Thousand and One Nights, in need of healing a la Okami and Shadow of the Colossus, though unlike those titles, the constant "healing"/transformation of the game world happens in real time.
- The Prince's dark powers and time rewind skills have been removed, though the Prince will still be able to scale and slide across walls using his glove.
- The game world has been built to be equally vertical and horizontal so that players will actively make use of the Prince's variety of abilities while also experiencing the freedom featured in the modern Legend of Zelda series.
- Combat focuses more on one-on-one duels of a high cinematic quality than running through swarms of foes (the presented comparison is as being more Soul Calibur than God of War).
- The bosses featured in the game are tied in quality to the Metal Gear Solid series: Fewer bosses in the game, but they each feature a dynamic background to directly impact the game's story.
- Enemies, to include bosses, are adaptive of the progression into the game so that players are invited to wander openly throughout the pseudo-linear, free-node game play system.
New Prince of Persia is easily shaping up to be one of the most eagerly anticipated titles of 2008, and it is currently scheduled for a Q4 2008 release for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.

Squeeze in a nod to Tetris, Final Fantasy, and Rock Band and it probably references every game genre ever made.
This sounds (and looks) really cool, but the best subtraction here is no more "dark powers" for the Price! I felt that these aspects really took away from the second and third installments of the new series. Emo Prince just didn't fit in with the feel of the original game or SoT.
I think it looks fantastic!
