Obama Says Games Are Raising America's Children

Hey, if Fox News can have a political bias, so can I. I like this man, and chances are he has my vote (extenuating circumstances prohibiting). I agree with him on a number of platforms, even with his crazy racist preacher.
Mr. Obama is on record for stating that gamers are underachievers. I think this is true in several many cases, but not global. Politicians speak in sweeping generalizations all the time, I'm not going to be offended because I don't fit their mold. And now, he has been caught making a statement about recently released Grand Theft Auto IV.
I was just catching the news this morning about Grand Theft Auto, this video game, which is gonna break all records and make goo-gobs of money for whoever designed it. Now, this isn't intended for kids, although I promise you there are kids who are playing it, but these video games are raising our kids...Across the board, middle-class, upper-class, working-class kids, they're spending a huge amount of their time not on their studies, but on entertainment.
And so part of our job is going to have to be to inspire the entire country to say, 'How are we giving our kids a thirst for knowledge?' And turning off the TV set, and getting them to be engaged and interested, like their future really does matter on how well they do in school."
He seemed very careful to word his statement as not to blame Rockstar. Kudos, I say. It is infrequent, especially from someone who is trying to motivate the populous to make a statement that eludes to the fact that parents are letting games do their work for them.

Wow, if he didn't have my vote before, he certainly has it now. I've always just like Obama more than Hillary based on the fact he just doesn't seem as much of a political slimeball as she does, but now that he's taking a common sense stand on video games and the craptastic parenting going on in this country, it's in the bag.
Nice to hear a politician acknowledge that M-rated games aren't intended for kids, but at the same time, when I was a kid this is almost exactly what politicians and other nanny-state types were saying about television.
Eventually video games will just become a fact of life and another politician will say the Internet is raising our kids, and so on, and so on.
I'm neither for nor against Obama, Grand Theft Auto and television, and I approve this message.
This new rock and roll music is ruining our children and destroying our nation.
This article made my EXTREMELY republican friend/roommate vote for Obama. He didnt have to say it specifically, but finally someone of importance starts saying that parents should be responsible for their children!
oh, Edwahd, it goes back further than that! it's that damn JAZZ music -- it's the devil's soundtrack, tell ya! and it's leading our country to RUIN!!
"It's that new dangled invention fire. Kids are cooking their meat. When I was a kid, we had to eat our meat raw. Fire is the work of the devil, I tell ya!"
I think he or his staff maybe the most tech savvy out of the lot. But saying that gamers are underachievers is a stretch. That said, I am still voting for McCain.
