Offical Xbox Magazine Online Takes A Stand Against "The Other F-word"

Dan Amrich, Senior Editor of Official Xbox Magazine is not gay, but he certainly knows an idiot when he hears one. Dan recently wrote a nice little article on the Official Xbox Magazine website, decrying the use of the words "fag" and "gay" as insults in online gaming. Sure, this is nothing new, we have discussed this at length both here on the website and on our podcast. But the key here is that this is a straight man writing an article on the official website of the official magazine of the console that seems to have the worst offenders of this rule as players in its online community.
This is a big step in my opinion and I hope we start seeing more about this from other avenues. We can discuss this over an over again her on GayGamer, but until it starts reaching the other sites, the sites where maybe everyone doesn't feel the same way we do about it, we are just preaching to the choir. Kudos to you Dan, for stepping forward and showing that our cause is championed by more than our own knights.

Awesome article. I'm glad to see at least some evidence that the community may be moving in the right direction.
By the way, the original article can be Dugg, so I encourage GG readers to head over to OXM and Digg it to increase its visibility.
*shakes fist menacingly* Digg it...
Wow he seems more pissed off about it than most gay people.
But this was an excellently written article and to appear on the official website is a very good thing indeed.
This is probably the first active/visible step XBox has taken since Major Nelson tried to placate the community last fall.
Nice step. Now take a bigger one.
Like BlackRabbit, I applaud the effort but await the next step.
Don't get me wrong, I'm elated to see someone actually admit there's a problem here and actively do something to start correcting it, but why now? Where the hell were they when XBL first blew up and the problem ran rampant across any multiplayer game?
I'm very excited for this move and am behind Mr. Amrich all the way, but I'm still a little sore that they waited this long.
Yup, it's always nice to see someone speak out about the problem. It's a necessary first step. But I've learned not to get my hopes up that anything useful will follow...
I'm sure a lot of us can relate. I remember first getting Xbox Live and thinkng "Gee, communicating with fellow gamers via microphone is a great idea"...that is...until I realized fellow gamers = young, insecure douchebags with no concepts of fairplay or sense of self. I would love for the powers that be on Xbox Live to make my gold account worth it again and do something about these snots. (And god, I sound like a crotchety old man, but *smile*, its true)
