Penny Arcade Adventures To Be Released Next Week

Those cats over at Penny Arcade set out to release a video game a short while ago, and you know what? I'm happy about it. Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness: Episode One not only has a crazy long name, but it looks like it could be quite entertaining. Then again, it could be royal ass, I'm reserving my opinion.
Up until today, there has not been any notice about a release day, symptomatic of being an XBLA title. They finally nailed down a time for us, and guess what, it's next week. Between this and WiiWare, I plan on being very broke by the end of the month.

I'm really looking forward to it. Last I saw though, it's a turn based combat system which a lot of people seem to hate these days.
This game could be Tycho and Gabe tap dancing for an hour, but as long as Tycho said something smarmy, I would lovingly pay for it.
Between this and Wii Fit, I'm broke.
Those guys bug the hell out of me.
Yeah, SOME of their little webcomics are funny. But they are WAAAY overhyped.
And what's with the gaming convention and videogame and stuff? Is someone backing them for some odd reason or are they just rich brats?
I really want to support the Penny Arcade guys, but $20 is a lot for a XBLA game. This is on my "wait and see" list.
Actually Nexus, the number of people who like the comic, buy t-shirts, books, and prints of the comic give them the money to do what they do. So I guess the answer to your question would be "Neither".
game-boi:OXM spoke very favorably of the game, even going so far as to say it had more content than some DVD games: "Twenty bux is a perfectly reasonable sum when you consider how many retail 360 games offer the same quantity of content..." If you're wondering, they gave it an 8.5
Of course, it depends on how you view OXM and waiting on a review from the magazine/site you respect the most would be the wisest decision.
Eh. Penny Arcade set a standard for the industry, so that's why they're famous. That doesn't mean they're the best thing ever, it just means they were the first to do it to that standard, and established a lot of common conventions now found in webcomics.
That said, Steampunk? Seriously guys? I'd like to see a bit more originality before I would consider buying this.
