Prince Of Persia Cast

jake11wd.jpg

This little tidbit actually snuck past me, but Jake Gyllenhaal, whom some of you here may know from his recent works, has been cast as the lead in the upcoming Prince of Persia movie. The movie is apparently going to be based on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and is being directed by Jerry Bruckheimer

In the fantasy adventure, Gyllenhaal will play Dastan, a young prince in 6th century Persia who must join forces with Tamina (Arterton), a feisty and exotic princess, to prevent a villainous nobleman from possessing the Sands of Time, a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world.

While it's bit strange the role didn't go to a middle eastern actor, I have faith Jake can do well in the role. Color me excited for this one.

Really? You thought they would actually cast a Middle Eastern actor? You know this is America, right? You think they would put "the enemy" into a major motion picture set for wide release? Probably make it as controversial as the Golden Compass.

And it's not like the character in the video game looks very Middle Eastern either.

Sigh. Well as long as we're bending to the implicit racism and ethnocentrism running rampant throughout our culture - hey! They picked Jake! He's a hottie, right?

I'm not a hardcore prince of Persia fan. I played sands of time and two thrones. But i can't remember prince having a name.

Since when has Hollywood used middle-eastern actors to portray middle-eastern leading roles? Never, I say! ;P

At least they've gotten out of the habit of using Caucasian people with smeared faces to play as African natives...

Good that they cast a decent enough actor, too bad he had to be as white as white could be.

Correction: Jerry Bruckheimer is producing, Mike Newell is directing.
