The Thompson Spiral Continues Downward
The Jack Thompson wicket is just getting stickier. Judge Dava Tunis, the judge who presided over Thompson's disbarment trial has recommended that the controversial attorney be found guilty on twenty seven out of thirty one counts of professional misconduct charges. The charges stem from Thmpson's participation in the Strickland vs. Sony trial concerning the three police officers who were killed by an eighteen year old Grand Theft Auto player and from Thompson's many attempts to block the sale of Bully last year.
In papers filed with the Supreme Court, Judge Tunis outlined the following list of Thompson's offenses...
- Knowingly making a false statement of material fact or law to a tribunal
- Knowingly disobeying an obligation under the rules of a tribunal
- Communicating the merits of the case with a judge before whom the proceeding is pending
- Using means that have no purpose other than to embarrass, delay or burden a third person
- Engaging in conduct involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit or misrepresentation
- Engaging in conduct in connection with the practice of law that is prejudicial to the administration of justice, including to knowingly or through callous indifference disparage or humiliate litigants or other lawyers
- Making statements that the lawyer knows to be false or with reckless disregard as to the truth or falsity concerning the qualifications or integrity of a judge
That's a pretty hefty list of offenses and one that Thompson is going to have a hard time wriggling out from under. We'll keep an eye on this and see how it goes, but things are not looking good for Thompson. And yes, I am saying that with a smile on my face...
