Video: Carrie Underwood DS Commercial
Remember when I told you how Nintendo was releasing the Metallic Rose DS as a standalone? And how they were getting some celebrities to hawk it? Well, I saw the Carrie Underwood commercial during the American Idol finale, and I made the bf rewind the DVR so I could see what they did. Um. Or didn't do. It's like they took a minimalist approach to the whole thing. It's basically just Carrie Underwood riding in her tour bus (in full hair and makeup, natch) while she plays Nintendogs on her Metallic Rose DS. She doesn't say much aside from "cute" and "cool." And why she's playing with a virtual dog when she has a real one is beyond me. Can she not take him on the tour bus with her? I'd think she could do whatever she wants, since it's her tour bus and she's the multiplatinum country star. I just don't get this ad. It's a little late to be selling Nintendogs, and they never mention that it's a new color DS that's just now being made available. It's just an odd approach to the campaign. But hey, Carrie Underwood looks pretty. And her dog is cute.
I couldn't find the America Ferrera one, but the Liv Tyler one is after the break. And I guess I can almost believe Liv Tyler playing Brain Age 2. At least it's more realistic than Nicole Kidman! Please!

They're really similar to the commercials from Japan starring female celebrities, where it just shows them playing whatever game, and they make a few candid comments.

I think they're fine? It's not like a commercial for the DS needs a freaking fireworks show or explosions. I also don't think little girls (who this ad is probably aimed at, not a grown, male adult) are going to care if it's a new color or how old the game is. They will see pink and cute puppies and an american idol and want it.
And shit, when I first got my DS I sat outside with my boyfriend and my dog and we played nintendogs together. You're just being a negative nancy D:
They should have had her sitting on the can, playing Pokemon...
The Carrie and Liv commercials are also on the Nintendo Channel. You know, I kinda like that channel. I'll let them advertise to me.
And dammit, I want a boyfriend like d.k.x.'s
