Are Music Games Affecting The Radio?

239.jpg

So I want to know if our readers have been noticing the same thing I am. Ever since Rock Band (and Guitar Hero III) came out last year, I've been hearing the songs featured in these games on the radio more. A LOT more. I've heard Knights of Cydonia at least four times in the last week alone, and I only really listen to the radio while driving to and from work, so this is a small window of time. Dani California is another one I'm suddenly hearing a lot more as well.

Tell us what's going on in your neck of the woods. Are Rock Band/Guitar Hero songs getting requested a lot lately? Or are we just seeing a shift back towards rock in general?

OMG I have been thinking the same thing! I mentioned it to my BF an he said I am probally noticing it more because now i am familiar with the songs, buuuuuut, I don't think so. I think it is influencing the radio. I agree, circle gets the square.

You read my mind! I was just thinking this yesterday after hearing "Tom Sawyer" on the radio. I wonder if I'm just noticing these songs more now because I know them so much better now than I ever did before?

Okay. This phenomenon is not going away. I was at a McDonald's yesterday and got RickRolled! So not fair. I don't remember the last time I heard Rick Astley on the air before that freakin' thing started up again...

I thought the same thing your boyfriend thought, Riot. I figured I just pay more notice to the songs I'm more familiar with. Plus with all the DLC available for Rock Band now, it's no surprise when half the songs I hear on the radio are on Rock Band.
That doesn't mean the games don't have any influence, though. I started hearing Through the Fire and the Flames on the radio right after Guitar Hero III came out, and the DJ's even talked about how crazy the song is in Guitar Hero.

I don't really listen to the raido, but I have been noticing a lot of the songs more at retail stores like best buy or hastings. At first I thought it was just some type of audio matrixing that my mind was doing, but I swear most of the time the songs are back to back.

I guess it makes sense though, good advertising. My friend bought his first Boston album just the other day.
