Neil Gaiman Game On The Way

Acclaimed comic book writer (Sandman) and novelist (Anansi Boys) Neil Gaiman is about to see one of his creations turned into a videogame. The property in question is the novella Coraline, although the game headed for both consoles and handhelds will be based on the film adaptation.
I haven't read the book, but the story sounds intriguing enough. A little girl finds a door to another world, a twisted version of her own and she must find missing souls to earn her way home. But it all sounds very creepy with people with buttons sewn over their eyes and the like. The movie's going to star Dakota Fanning, so I'm going to have to deal with hearing her voice, but at least it's going to be animated by Henry (Nightmare Before Christmas) Selick. Of course, keep in mind this will be a licensed videogame, probably rushed through production to coincide with the release of the film, and therefore its ultimate quality is suspect. Still, it'll be nice to see Gaiman in the videogame world. Too bad licensing deals with Warner Bros. would make a Sandman game next to impossible... sigh...

Don't forget, the score is by They Might be Giants. That's an added bonus.
At least for me...
I *did* read the book and thought it was delightfully creepy. One of my first thoughts was how it would make a great animated or stop-motion film (the visuals are very stark)--so it could be both a great film and a great game. They can still have it be kid-friendly but interesting if they take a Wind Waker approach to it. Only time will tell.
