Oh Best Buy... I Feel So Used...

Why should GameStop be the only retail chain to rake in the dough from selling previously played games for a slight discount after buying them for next to nothing? Best Buy has begun selling used videogames in some Canadian stores in an ettempt to boost sales. As yet, there's still no word exactly how many stores are involved or whether the the program would make its way to US stores.
I'm not sure if I'd really buy used games at Best Buy. I rarely buy games there anyway, at least not unless they're on sale. If I'm gonna just pay full retail, I stop by my neighborhood GameStop. No sense going out of my way... But I suppose if Best Buy priced their used games to undercut GameStop, I'd give it a shot. What about you?
Best Buy Tests Used-Games Sales In Canada [Video Business]

As a general rule I don't like buying used games unless I have to. It doesn't help the developers any and Gamestop tends to be really slimey about it. (ie "Why stock NEW games when we can make a killing off of selling used copies for $2 less?!") Oddly enough I usually like Best Buy. Not sure why... I don't, however, think I would buy used games from them either.
I absolutely would not buy anything from best buy. I don't like getting frisked as a thank you for doing business (unless they have the initials brett favre)
ditto. in fact, i prefer buying all my games at best buy if i can, simply because i don't like used things (including books, too, which is sometimes a problem for this doctoral student) at all, and the whole "bring an empty box up front and we'll put something in it" feel of gamestop is off-putting to me, even though i know it's all new and it's just the way they do things.
i like to take off that shrink wrap myself, thank you very much.
also, ditto on the ridiculous racket of used games in general - i just went into gamestop while visiting my bf in evanston to buy gta4 now that i have a ps3, and the guy was just like "i think we have a used copy of that." "oh yeah?" i said, "how much?" "55 bucks."
five dollars cheaper than new? uh... why bother, then?
How am I the first person to point out how fucking delicious that salesman looks. If they ACTUALLY looked like that, I'd go to Best Buy a lot more often...
I buy used games a lot, but I'm very picky about the games I buy. I like to inspect the disc, case, and instruction manual before making a purchase. I think it would be good for GameStop to have a little competition because I feel like they're prices are often too high for what they're selling and they're pretty much bought up all of the alternatives.
I go where the games are cheapest.
Interesting. Well the Best Buy by my GameStop is getting rid of all their used games, it didn't work out so well for them.
Maybe it'll work out better for Canada...
uhh, game stop is not the only place that sells used games. there is always you local neighborhood gamecrazy. which is in affiliation for those who didnt know. and i like them a lot better then game stop, for one, they leave new games in the wrap. why would the store take them out anyway, its dumb. the reason for the wrap... well you know the rest of that rant. but overall gamecrazy is better than game stop because they always have the game you want. i have never been there and they have been sold out. except for new releases. all places sell out of those.
Steven I think you read my mind.
I've had too many problems in the past with used games that I've bought from Funcoland, Gamestop, etc., and so I simply don't do it anymore. If it's a choice between buying a used-condition game that I've always wanted or never getting my hands on a copy, I'll choose the latter, always.
i gotta say, no. with all honesty, i work at best buy, and i must admit, the inspection of returns is kind of lax, and at some point i wonder if they even expectg it at all. you don't know how many things come back to our store with "missing part" attached to it. it's a friggin cd, what part is missing? at any rate, i'm sure it varies from store to store, but for the most part, i just can't imagine them doing a very thorough job of taking in quality returns.
typically, i like to go to local shops if i get any used items. you know, the ones with the crazy, how do you stay in business prices.
p.s. -- i'm a delicious best buy guy :D

MOtaku: I used to make that mistake all the time...but look closer at the printout and right below MISSING PART you will usually find nothing. It's not saying what's missing, it's saying "look below for the missing parts" which is blank for most things (like games). However, I agree that the returns aren't really inspected very well.
With that being said, there was no mention about whether or not these used games would be generated by the store (like Gamestop) or if BB would receive them like regular freight, just used.
