PS3 Firmware Update: Trophies Not Applied Retroactively
With the 2.40 firmware update just around the corner, new questions have arisen, especially in regards to the Trophy system. Like many people, I like credit for all the work I've done in video games. Call it a modern sense of American entitlement. Anyway, it would seem reasonable to assume that players will be getting a lot of fresh, shiny trophies out the gate... right? Wrong.
All your hard-work was for nothing but personal satisfaction. No trophies will be applied retroactively and the games must essentially be replayed in order to re-earn things that you already have.
The reasoning behind this is simple. The PS3 does not lock out sharing saves. There exist many sites for downloading existing save games that would allow trophies to be unlocked immediately, thus making the trophies useless. Sad but true. I guess there is one positive for my being a late adopter.

Hmm, guess I'll put off my second playthrough of MGS4 and Ratchet and Clank, then...
