Say Bye Bye To BioShock DRM

Yesterday, 2K announced via their forums that the DRM has been completely removed form the PC version of BioShock.
Good news! As promised, all activation restrictions, including install limits, have been removed from BioShock PC as of today. You don't have to patch or install anything for this to go into effect for your copy of BioShock - it's already done!
We had heard that this would be coming after all the stink raised about it when the game came out last year. Glad to see 2K sticking to their word on this one. Perhaps other game companies will take their lead and we'll see more of this type of thing. But until then, enjoy your un-DRMed BioShock!

Well I would suspect they did this because at this point they need to spark sales of the game...and any press is good press. Doing this will make people perhaps go out and try it.
Well, obviously this won't change the behavior of physically printed discs. A new install from old media will still require a query to the activation server so it can tell it it doesn't need to be activated, which leaves the problem DRM has had all along: Once the server goes down, the game goes up in smoke. Until it's hacked, of course. God bless hackers, as they say.
