Wootini's Weekly Wii Fit Update #4

wootiniweek4.jpg

As you can see from the chart here, I'm making progress, slowly but surely. After the spike last weekend, I've been on a downward trend the whole week. I decided to do the body test every day, not just because Wii Fit suggests that you do, but because I wanted to have a smoother line on the chart. Doing it every two or three days was making for some weird spikes. But it would seem that doing Wii Fit every day (yes, I have not missed a single day) and adjusting my diet so I'm eating a little healthier is actually making a difference. More details after the jump!

I'm still getting up a half-hour early for work every day so I can get in some Wii Fit beforehand. Unfortunately, it takes about 45 minutes of real time to get in 30 minutes of Wii Fit time, so I usually only end up getting to the 20 minute mark before I have to shower or risk being late for work.

My new favorite exercise is the rhythm boxing, and the 10 minute version is long enough you feel like you might actually be burning a few calories, and it seems faster paced than the shorter ones. Although sometimes I find myself half-assing the punches because it's just registering Wiimote and Nunchuck movement, so you can kind of just gently swing them and still get credit. But it changes up the punch combinations, so there's a little variety to it (and you have to pay attention) as opposed to the stepping, which is always the same.

I've found myself focusing on the aerobics and strength training, and really not bothering with yoga as much anymore. I know yoga's supposed to be good for you, but it never feels like it's doing anything (I know, it will eventually, but I'm an instant gratification kind of guy) and I'm just not flexible enough to feel like I'm doing it right. I was very proud of myself when I found myself able to do the 10 reps of push up/side plank without feeling like my arms were going to fall off. Eventually, I hope to be able to try the 20 that I unlocked ages ago. Maybe next month!

I also tried the push up challenge, to see what the challenges were all about. See, after all the strength training exercises, there are three separate ones labeled as challenges. There's push up, jackknife, and plank. So far I've only done the push up one. Basically, you try to one-up the on-screen trainer. Unfortunately, the first round, he gets through ten and gives up, so you win. Then the second, he gives up after 20, and you win. So I figure the next time I try it, he'll give up after 30, and it'll be up to me to see if I can get through it or not. (This is where I think I might not be able to pull it off)

Oddly, one morning when I started the game up, instead of saying "good morning," the trainer sighed and admitted he'd stayed up too late last night. A little partying on the side? It was an odd way to get across the point that you should make sure to get a good night's sleep every day. Oh, and also, if you've got the game, try clicking on your Mii on the calendar screen. It's very cute. More next week!

This is a very innovative design! I love Wii Fit very much. It is a break through. It combines 2 totally different activities together. Very bright idea.
