Dev Vs Dev - Treyarch Apologizes For Dissing Brothers In Arms

Even though the comment was made by an Activision rep, Call of Duty: World at War developer Treyarch has apologized for statements at a CoD press event that cast Brothers in Arms and its developer, Gearbox, in a less-than-lovely light.
An Activision rep called Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway a "crappy war game." Out of fairness' sake, let's attempt to put that into context:
"They're not a game we even think about when we're playing, we think about the best shooters, we play [Call of Duty 4] Modern Warfare, we play Gears of War, we play Halo. That's the competition. We want to look at the games that do great storytelling," Heller told Eurogamer Germany during a video interview.
"We don't want to look at someone who's just making a crappy war game."
I'd be less likely to write this up if the game in question was, you know, released already, but considering Hell's Highway August 2008 release date, it seems a bit premature to pan. That said, I'm genuinely curious as to whether or not it will be a crappy war game, of which there are indeed more than a few.
But as for the brouhaha, Treyarch refuted its publisher's comments with genuine style. Commendable. There's plenty of time to pan a game after it's been released, if and when it deserves panning.
