Next Team Fortress Update = Heavy

heavy_problem.jpg

Well, rumours of an upcoming Scout update for Team Fortress 2 have been quashed, because the Team Fortress devs have started a blog about their designing and have announced the next class to get achievements and unlockables is The Heavy.

We do design collaboratively at Valve, and one of the side effects of it is that we really need to be able to evaluate design ideas as objectively as possible. Otherwise design meetings would devolve into subjective arguing. We've found that the best method of working objectively is to have clear goals up front.

They then state that their major goal for the Heavy is to make him more independent from medics, so that when one isn't around, he can still do well. Personally, I think an achievement unlocked minigun that deals less damage but causes anyone it hits to get healed slower would be neat, but it would rely on opponents who have a lot of medics. Maybe phosphorus bullets that burn enemies and trigger the effect of the Pyro's new axe.

Regardless of what they eventually develop, its interesting to see a little into their design strategies. Check out the full blog entry.
