Rumorama: Final Fantasy VII To See XBLA And PSN Release?
If there is any game that has a die-hard legion of fans, it would be Final Fantasy VII. Seriously, has there been a video game character that has caused more women to paw at the television than Sephiroth? I think it's the weird "M" shaped bangs.
Lets just say Square-Enix recognizes how much meat there is on the carcass that is Final Fantasy VII. This title has received more direct sequels, prequels, side stories and general fansterbation than any other title in the series. I won't go into the quality of these titles, but they are out there. Now there is a rumor that says the Squeenix may be bringing the title to XBL and the PSN.
This all likely started as the result of the statement hinting at a "big FFVII-related announcement" that will come at next month's DKΣ3713 event. 'Inside sources' (I love how important that makes someone sound) stated that not only will the original be available through the Playstation store as a PS1 original download there will "definitely" be a remake or spin-off announced. I don't know where the XBLA release fits into this but that's the rumor anyway.
I will admit that I hold a certain fondness for FF:VII as far as the series is concerned. I'm not going to get my panties in a twist waiting for a rebuild, and I expect to see a straight copy of this title on the two DLC heavy systems by the end of the year.

I've played through it to many times to care about it being on XBL or PSN... I'd rather they put out FF8 or FF9.... ALTHOUGH on the Remake Train, they are up to FF7...
I think releasing it on XBLA and PSN is actually a pretty good idea, as copies of it on ebay are extremely expensive.
My friends and I have talked about this, and we honestly don't see any need for a remake. Part of the charm is in the old-school graphics.

Nah, mate. Prettied up remakes of 4, 5, and 6 in glorious "Epic FF 1 and 2 Remake 2D (tm)" for my PSP should be the next step. Hell, I'd even just take 6.
I'm sure they will get on that right after they release Goldeneye on XBLA and Wii Marketplace

I'd rather a remake of VIII and IX personally.
But if it gets VII's fanboys to shut up then so do be it, do a HD OMG GRAPHICS!! version of VII and let it end there. No movies, no spinoffs, just let it end, ta.
Any how FFXI is better. It goes on first and makes the hair clean. NO CONDITIONER IS BETTER IT MAKES THE HAIR SILKY SMOOTH!
Gotta chime in and agree remakes of VIII and IX would make me a lot happier...Ah well, it's Square, it's bound to happen eventually.

the fanboys for this game will never go away. they'll never realize how shoddy the translation was. they'll complain about mini-game fests on the Wii, but laud how awesome it is to climb a mountain 10 ft, and mash the O button. the game was adequate at the time, and has not aged well. when you need to make spin-offs 10 years after the fact because your ending was hackneyed, rushed, and without character or plot resolution, your game is flawed beyond belief.
FFVII gave us a lot of the worst conventions of JRPGs since: crappy, unnecessary mini-games, excessively lengthy cutscenes/summoning animations, brooding/emo cast of characters. however, the game's mysticism will not die, until the people who first played an RPG with 7 kick off this mortal coil.
I don't think they will put it on any download service. they know they can remake a game and charge full price and people will buy it. thats why they won't put anything on virtual console.
Who knows...maybe watching those EXTREMELY dated graphics in HD might make the fanboys realize "wow...I wasted my life obsessing over this game? Maybe I should go into a corner and be as emo as Cloud" and then it might finally die down to the level of appreciation it should be at instead of the excessive level it is currently at
Square will evntually do a remake of this, if only to cash in, I mean, it will make some people upset but it will still bring in tons of money.
a remake would be cool. but i don't see why they need to put it on the DLC. many people who are FF7 fans already have the game. Unless their PS3 can't play PS1 games, there's no reason (aside from getting newer gamers to play it for the first time) for it to be on DLC.
the game was great, and seeing a remake (with HD graphics, etc) would be really weird to see and makes me wonder how I would perceive the game afterwards. Would I prefer the PS1 version over the PS3 version? Would I have a different opinion on the game? I don't know...
I do love me some FF, though. FF9 didn't get almost any love by the general gaming community, so I'd rather see a remake of that, despite my love for and fond memories of FF7.
I really see no reason not to remake the game. They could improve the things like the translation and whatnot. And I'm not a graphics whore (I'm a Nintendo fan foremost after all), but I enjoy having people that actually look like people. Not.. demented leggos.
I suppose my perspective is different because my first experience with this game was a few years ago, not when it first came out.
