SNK Arcade Classics Hit Consoles

I love compilations. It's a great way to get lots of games in one place for a pretty reasonable price most times. So SNK fans and you know who you are get ready to drool, because SNK Arcade Classics: Volume 1 is hitting stores this week for the Wii, PS2 and PSP systems. And you'll get quite the collection for your $19.99 (PS2), $24.99 (PSP) or $29.99 (Wii): 16 classic SNK titles that range from fighting to sports to shooters to platformers... something for everybody, including:
- Art Of Fighting
- Baseball Stars 2
- Burning Fight
- Fatal Fury
- King Of Fighters '94
- King of the Monsters
- Last Resort
- Magician Lord
- Metal Slug
- Neo Turf Masters
- Samurai Showdown
- Sengoku
- Shock Troopers
- Super Sidekicks 3
- Top Hunter
- World Heroes
"SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1 is without a doubt, the most well rounded arcade compilation to date," said Yoshihito Koyama, Director of Japan/US Relations for SNK PLAYMORE USA CORPORATION. "With 16 of SNK's all-time masterpieces there is sure to be a little something for everyone."
Oh, and if having all those games in one place wasn't enough for you, there's also a "Goal System" which awards you medals for achieving set goals in each game to unlock game videos, artwork, music tracks and more! Jinkies! Sounds like an SNK fanboy's wet dream come true!

Got the psp version and time has not been kind to most of these games. Especially the fighters. They feel real sluggish, but maybe I'm just not used to the timing.
Its definitely a nice collection of games for snk or old school arcade fans. I haven't Played King of the monsters in like 10+ years haha.
Released... this week? I bought the PS2 version a month ago for 15 bucks on the budget game rack of a discount department store (Fred's, it's a southeast chain, but I've seen the same SNK stuff on Circuit City's budget game shelf).
Anyway, it's a good deal. The fighters are sluggish as hell by today's standards, but it's worth it for stuff like Metal Slug (although there's an anthology for that, of course), Shock Troopers and Top Hunter. Compared to the price of Neo Geo games on Virtual Console, the anthology is a great deal. I would be kind of pissed if I paid 9 bucks for Magician Lord, but a dollar? A-OK!
Shock Troopers alone could justify the purchase here. Think ikari warriors meets metal slug with an Drum'n'Bass-y soundtrack. It's a lot of fun.
Is there something wrong with me for liking Magician Lord? I mean, it wasn't that bad, was it?
You are both correct. The game has been out for the PSP and PS2 for a while. The press release was touting the game's appearance on the Wii, which hits stores this week. My bad!
Ah, there's nothing really wrong with Magician Lord, it just feels like a rip-off at 9 dollars on Virtual Console. You can buy much better SNES games for a dollar less, much better N64 games for a dollar more.
