Square Enix Brings RPG Skills To The iPod With Song Summoner: The Unsung Heroes

From out of nowhere Square Enix has announced and released the new must have in iPod gaming, Song Summoner: The Unsung Heroes!

Song Summoner mounts the jams on your iPod Nano with video, iPod Classic or 5th Generation iPod for a turn-battle, strategy RPG escapade most often seen only on the likes of conventional portable gaming systems. Players take on the persona of the "Conductor" Ziggy to manifest warriors from music and team up with the "Superstars" to create weapons from sound all in a quest to free the kingdom of Melodica from the evil scourge known as the Mechanical Militia.

  • Transform your iPod songs into "Tune Troopers" to combat the evil Mechanical Militia.
  • Tune Trooper types and abilities are determined by the songs used to create them.
  • Your Tune Troopers can be powered up even outside of the game--just by listening to the songs you used to create them!
  • Control Ziggy, a "Conductor" that creates warriors out of music, and guide him through his journey to save his brother Zero from the Mechanical Militia.
  • Experience a turn-based tactics battle system, divided into player and enemy phases where each side takes turns maneuvering their forces.
  • Deploy the right troopers at the right time, and use contraptions found on the map effectively to achieve victory in battle!
  • The iPod Click Wheel allows players to play the game as easily as selecting music.

Best of all, this adventure only costs $4.99! Talk about an easy sell!

That sounds really cool! Too bad there's zero chance of it coming out for Zune. :(

Square and Apple??? Aww SWEET!! Too bad I am not in the US and can't have an account. :(

Imagine if Square starts making games for the iPod Touch or iPhone? We will just have to wait and see.

Seriously. Apple + Square FTW! If this is any harbinger of things to come, my 3G iPhone purchase just got a whoooooole lot sweeter. :)

This blog has given me two potential random statements for me to use as catchphrases.

"SNOWBALLIN!"

and

"Humans and robots working together?!? NOOO!!"

This is the first time I've ever really considered cell phone gaming. Sounds interesting. At least it's not another FFVII cell phone game.

I watched the trailer for this and I saw the line "Let's make a man out of this jam!" So funny.

I have my friend's iPod in my possession. I might load download this for him (me).

This is what I get for upgrading to an iPod Touch. Sigh...

when i found out about this i immediately downloaded the game onto my ipod (at least one good thing i got out of my ex), and this game quickly absorbed the entirety of my morning. DO NOT play this game while riding on public transportation. you WILL wind up in some god-forsaken part of the world and have no idea how you got there or how to get home.

... i spent 3 hours trying to get the perfect characters. I haven't even really played the game yet. lol

I quite literally plugged in my ipod and purchased this game as soon as I finished reading this article...and I thought tetris was addictive.

I spent a while getting characters, too. It's alot like Monster Rancher. I'm having a fun time just picking out songs and creating allies. The first song I chose was "About to Happen" by Siouxsie, and I ended up with a wooden dummy wearing a red cape with a huge metal spike jutting out of it's groin area. So then i picked a loud, obnoxious metal song thinking it would get me a tough ally. Yeah, right. "Eradication Instincts Defined" by Dimmu Borgir got me a cute blue fairy with crappy stats! And "Duel (hectic mix)" by Bond got me a level S warrior. How 'bout that...

Games like this I love, the adventure, its too bad it aint for itouch, well nothing is, which makes me realized why a lot of people tend to jailbreak it, it gets really boring.

I downloaded this last night after seeing this article, but I seem to be the only person who's having a problem playing it. I know my iPod is getting a little old (nearly 2 years), but I can't play the game for more than five minutes before my battery is drained. Anyone else having this problem?

I wonder if my iPod might be too old for this....

And, is there a system as to how they decide how good a character will be from a song? Or is it just random?

*researh time!*
