Wootini's Weekly Wii Fit Update #10

Well, after last week's hitting of my goal weight and assigning of a new goal, I found myself stuck around 170. So it is with great pleasure that I reveal this week's chart, where you can see I have once again continued my downward trend. Still "overweight" according to the BMI scale, but I'm looking and feeling better than I have in ages, and amazingly enough, I'm actually enjoying working out. The eating right still hurts my soul a little when I must choose to not devour an entire row of Chips Ahoy (but I'm dunking in skim milk!), but all total, I can safely say that Wii Fit has made me a changed man. Go figure. A videogame changed my life. How many games can say that?
More of this week's thoughts and observations after the break!
There were a couple odd things that happened while playing this week. First, one morning when I went to do the Plank Challenge, the female trainer suddenly filled in for no reason! It was the first exercise of the day, and I thought she'd stick around, but no, it was just for that one bit. Weird. Then, on another day, I noticed that the male trainer's hair had grown longer! That lasted only a couple days, then it was back to normal. However, I then noticed that in the mirror behind him, you could see his hair had been pulled back into a tiny ponytail. When did that happen? Was it always like that and I didn't notice? I'm not the most observant person in the world, I know, but still... I think this game is warping my brain.
Soon after attaining my goal and setting another, the game asked me if I knew what my ideal weight was supposed to be. I didn't, even though I'm pretty sure that was one of the things the game told me when I first started playing it. (But honestly, who pays that much attention to a talking Balance Board anyway?) I told it I didn't, and Wii Fit promptly told me that my idea weight should be around 145. Seriously. 145. It was 145-point-something-or-other, but still... 145 pounds. I haven't weighed that since... God, I can't even remember, but I would guess high school! Are they kidding me?
This is where I find the Body Mass Index to be a somewhat suspect gauge of your overall fitness. Right now, I don't feel like I'm overweight as the game likes to describe me every time I weigh myself. And I honestly feel like weighing 145 pounds would make me almost underweight. The real problem with that as an ideal weight is that it's highly unlikely I will ever attain it. At least I enjoy playing the game enough that it'll be fun trying!

:-) Once again, congratulations on your progress, Wootini! It seems what you are experiencing is similar to what people who work out regularly feel - that sense of healthiness and pride from sweating it out. Looking forward to more good news from you. Keep it up!
Oh, and unfortunately I don't have a Wii so I can't join you in this venture. Heh...
Congratulations on the weight loss.
But I know for a fact that BMI is a terrible gauge. It does not account for muscle mass, and as such, people with muscle are always going to be "morbidly obese". A friend of mine works out like a madman, and has no body fat at all, but according to his BMI, he's morbidly obese. Me, I've got plenty of body fat, but plenty of muscle too. In order to reach my "ideal weight" I would actually have to be dead.
Yay, I'm not crazy! I too have noticed the ponytail on the guy, and thought - wait, did I not *see* that before? Surely they didn't program hair growth for the trainers, did they?!
My boyfriend is still waiting for him to suddenly mention on a monday that he got a prince albert over the weekend. ;)
Anyway, keep up the excellent work, it *is* very rewarding to actually feel better and look better, and I think this 'game' does an excellent job of motivating you to change for the better.
-m.
145? Puh-lease. Everyone knows the BMI is just an approved way to apply a veneer of science to fat-bashing. If you eat right and work out, who gives a crap how much meat you got on you? Anyways, congratulation, Wootini! At this rate, you're gonna start looking like the guys in the Real Jock ads soon.
May we see a photo of yourself now? We would like to see the difference ourselves. Not as proof, but maybe someone here will consider you even more attractive...?
Yes, show us the new and improved Wootini!
Show it us!
Also, 145? That's crazytalk, unless you're like 5'2 or something. At 6'1 I'm rockin about 180, and I don't think I need to loose more than 10 lbs of fat and pack on some extra muscle. Ideally, I probably should hit 170 and then try and stay there, something you've already accomplished.
I'm trying to get a buddy of mine (and co-worker) to work out on a home trainer. We'll see how that works out.
I too have been enjoying my Wii Fit, and it's awesome to see you've made so much progress!
I noticed the difference in my trainer's hair as well, and thought the same thing ("Was that tiny ponytail always there?"), so I did some Googling. Apparently, the trainers' hair changes every month, and, if it's long, they let their hair down on the weekends. For some reason, that's unspeakably cool to me.

I had the female trainer "fill in" for the male one after only a couple of days. I did start out with the female one on the first day so maybe she missed me - who knows!
