Deal: 1600 Microsoft Points For $14.99

If you want to catch up on all this Braid hubbub but are loathe to spend a penny more than you have to, you may want to head out to Target and pick up a 1600 Microsoft Points card for $14.99. In their magical world of points to dollars, 1600 points equals $20, so you can nab the 1200 point Braid and have 400 left over for something else, or just to save until Castle Crashers arrives later this month.
As a tangentially related aside, in yesterday's Braid post, readers Andy B. and Richie both lamented the practice of "lending" console companies money because you can only add money to your account in preset amounts rather than buying the games outright. I agree: I hate feeling like I need to play financial Tetris to bring my wallet down to zero, and it makes me less likely to buy a game on impulse if I know I'm going to have to let Microsoft or Nintendo hold onto $4 or 5 until they deign to release something else worth the cash. Right now I've got a balance on both the Xbox 360 and Wii, and although I'm sure I'll use it up at some point, I bet a large number of people won't, leaving Microsoft and Nintendo sitting on a good chunk of change.

Funny, this is the same reason that I think pre-ordering games at Gamestop is a scam. A $5 interest-free loan to Gamestop for a game that won't be hard to find on release? No thank you. Honestly, what software release in recent years, aside from limited editions, was impossible to find at launch?
I combined this deal with another one of those "10% off because you have a target card" coupons, so this was especially nice... that and groceries.
OT Question for Braid fans: I played the demo and thought it was really pretty, but not a whole lot of fun. Does the game change drastically when you get into it? Everyone I know is in love with this game (and I was hyped for it), but I'm not digging it, especially at that price.
"play financial Tetris to bring my wallet down to zero" Congratulations on an a propos and well crafted metaphor, sir. :-)
@gamehoarders.com: I could agree with you, but wouldn't free reserves mean people would start reserving lots of games without even being sure they wanted to buy it?
@game-boi: Yeah, the demo barely lets you out of the first level (world 2), which is easy compared to the rest of the game and is meant as an introduction to the fundamental play mechanics. (Still, the demo does include a few puzzle pieces that are quite tricky--did you manage to collect them all?) So I guess ya just gotta have faith that the rest of the game is as ingenious as we all say it is. Here's a link to the creator's blog if you want to get a feel for his approach to games:

I got 3 cards for $44.97 for a total of 4800 points instead of $49.99 for 4000 Points, yay go Target!
On PSN you can buy games for the price without having money in your e-wallet.
