Download The PlayStation Home PS3 Theme, Get A Chance At The Home Beta

pshometheme.jpg

If you are interested in joining the expanded Home Beta that begins later this month, head on over to the PSN store and download this nifty Home theme (designed by friend of GayGamer, the dashing Noel Silvia) for your PS3. The download will automatically sign you up for a chance to join the Beta! It doesn't guarantee you a spot however, just gets you in the running. From there, the Sony folks will be deciding who's eligible based on a few different criteria including amount of PSN activity. If you are already in the beta, you will automatically be qualified to join the expanded beta.

And for our European readers, don't despair! SCEE will be contacting you soon regarding their expanded Home beta. If you want to get a chance to be in on it, you best start making use of the PSN since users with the most activity will be the ones targeted for admission.

Their criteria for inclusion in the expanded beta is ridiculous. The people who play COD4/Warhawk/GTA IV online the most are the people who are least likely to use or enjoy Home. There needs to be another way of picking who gets to test it other than online play. If you're online all the time playing games anyway, you won't be sitting in Home chatting with strangers. Perhaps they could charge a nominal fee, like $5, to be in the expanded beta. That would ensure that only those most likely to actually use it would be included. Or else offer people a choice: a free game they could download, or entrance into the Home beta. Again, the right people would self-select. It would be a much more accurate predictor of who would really be using Home in the long-run. It annoys me that I paid for Home when I bought my PS3, and I am still being denied access to it, while others who may not be using it at all have full, unfettered access. It also bothers me that I have to leave my PS3 on all day while I'm at work logged into some game to create fake "activity" so I can increase my chances of being in the beta. Just dumb all around on Sony's part. You need to rethink this one, guys.
