Fable II Becomes A Reality In October
Apparently this is street week, as in everyone is announcing the street date of when their 'delayed for at least one year' game is going to finally be released to the clamoring masses. Today Fable II is stepping up to the mic to let us know that it will be releasing to U.S. audiences on Oct. 21st for $59.99 and shortly after to European players on Oct. 24th. If you remember back a few weeks ago, Fruit and Tiny actually had a nice chat with Peter Molyneux about the gay friendly features they worked into the sequel of the game and also got some hands-on time with the game at E3. It sounded like Peter really took the comments they made the year before about the features that they loved in the original game to heart.
The press release also made mention of a Collector's Edition of the game (seen above) that will go for $79.99 and include:
- Bonus DVD - Includes new 'Making-of Feature' with Peter Molyneux and the team at Lionhead Studios and concept art viewer
- Bonus In-Game Content (Requires LIVE account) - Includes "The Hall of the Dead" Dungeon, "The Wreckager" Legendary Cutlass Weapon and Otherworldly Bonus
- Collectible Hobbe figure with accessories - From the Qee Collection comes this one-of-a-kind Hobbe figure. Nasty, brutish, and short, he roams the countryside, preying on travelers and spiriting away the children of the unwary.
- 48-hour Xbox LIVE Gold Trial Card - With Xbox LIVE Gold, players can show off their individual hero by inviting friends into their unique version of Albion or they can visit their friends' Albion, and earn additional gold, experience and renown to take back into their own.
- Five printed Fate Cards - These five beautiful cards foretell the Hero's great destiny to journey across all of Albion, encountering deadly enemies and enigmatic allies. The path leads to a choice that will change the world forever.
That's some pretty nice swag (sans the 48 hour Xbox LIVE Gold) for 20 extra dollars. On top of all of that, the studio has announced that the XBLA Fable II Pub Games will be released on XBox Live on Aug. 13th for a mere 800 points; moreover, if you pre-order the game from certain retailers you will get a code to download the Pub Games for free, which is a rather nice free gift for plopping down your money for the game a few months before it comes out. Yay! So excited to see how this game turns out!
p.s. This whole Collector's Edition thing has gotten out of hand. How many people are actually going to pay 20 bucks for a single dungeon, a making-of show and a couple of trinkets?
I work on the team that made the fate cards/manual for this and I must say the fate cards are a sight to behold in person. Really really really well-made.
48-hours kind of sucks and likely isn't going to make anybody purchase a full year. A week maybe, 10 days, I dunno... but 48-hours?
Anyway, I never played the original fable so I'm not sure how I feel about this. It looks interesting though.
This is definitely a must buy for the boyfriend. He LOVES these kinds of games (although what he really really wants is a new sequel for Elder Scrolls/Oblivion).
Now to find the retailers that give you the Pub games as a bonus!
