Kojima Discusses MGS4, Console Exclusives, Gaming Marketplace

Coming off the successful release of Metal Gear Solid 4, Hideo Kojima deserves a break. That didn't stop him from sitting down with Eurogamer to discuss the final chapter in the series, his views on porting the game to other consoles, and how the future of Kojima Productions.
One topic that was brought up was the assumption by industry spokespeople such as Phil Harrison and Satoru Iwata that there is decrease in the desire of gamers to delve into epic titles. Kojima responded:
Even if that is a fact, I still think that there are gamers who love these epic games or hardcore games because some people still really live with games, and really receive something from games, and I regard them as real gamers. Now, as long as these gamers exist I feel a responsibility that someone has to do it, to create these games, so I'm not really worried.
I can't help but feel there is a divide in the industry of where gaming is headed. If developers are still intent on making massive games for "hardcore gamers" will publishers back them up, or are we seeing a shift away from an industry where icons like Kojima, Miyamoto, and even Cliffy B become obsolete. Wouldn't that be a giant step back for gaming?
As for the question of Metal Gear Solid 4 finding a second home on Microsoft's console, Kojima says:
Also, technology-wise, the 360 is very different to the PS3, and because MGS4 was optimised for the PS3 it is probably not possible. But, you know, what kind of disturbs me sometimes, because a lot of people ask me about this PS3/360 question, is that it's not about the hardware - I want people to look at the game itself.
Personally I think MGS4 should remain an exclusive title, with every other game in the cosmos going multiplatform Sony should have dibs on at least one franchise. Let the game speak for itself and perhaps encourage gamers to embrace all consoles instead of playing favorites.
I'm always a fan of developer interviews when they're talking about more than just upcoming titles. Check out the full review and let us know how you feel about Kojima's comments.
Konami's Hideo Kojima Interview [Eurogamer]

Welcome to the GG.net staff, Doc. n.n
This interview is actually rather insightful, and as a huge fan of Kojima's it's great to see a little more into how his mind works. I thought it was rather interesting that he might go back to making MGS games(?), which I honestly hope he doesn't. Here's to ZOE3!
"Let the game speak for itself and perhaps encourage gamers to embrace all consoles instead of playing favorites."
Personally, I'd be quite happy to embrace all consoles under the sun, if that didn't also mean embracing poverty.

You live in a land where things only cost dreams and sunshine, don't you?
Silly people, in my world things just cost a wish and some starlight.
He does have a point about this 360/PS3 thing. I guess for a game developer, it ends up being annoying as to why this game is in this console and not on that one. People should care more about the actual game their playing not about why it's not on a certain console and whatnot.
