Quest For Glory 2 Reborn

QFG2_ss6.jpg

1990 was a simpler time in PC game history. EGA was heading out the door and VGA was taking its place. Sierra was King and had just released a sequel to their adventure/RPG franchise called Quest For Glory 2: Trial By Fire. Back then we were happy just to have 16 color EGA graphics and only 3 or 4 possible character classes in our games. Things have changed since then, now with a variety of colors (with a staggering number of brown hues), textures, shaders and lighting for our games as well as massively-multiplayer online games with upwards of 20 classes; however, sometimes you want things to be a little be simpler again. The only problem is that you don't want to pull out your old 386 computer, and even less so have to with all the issues that might also crop up with the game.

Well it looks like AGD Interactive knows how you feel, and has set about restoring old Sierra games to be compatible with modern computers. They've done a number of the Kings Quest games, but recently released Quest for Glory 2 for all you nostalgic folks out there. They've updated the graphics, replaced the text-based input with interactive menus, made the city a little easier to navigate, and accelerated the battle mechanics so that the whole game will all play more smoothly. The game still has everything else you remember from the series, well fleshed out NPCs, a variety of ways to solve puzzles based on your class, and plenty of quirky puns and jokes to keep the dialog interesting. You can download the game here. For those of you that have never played the game, I highly recommend you try, just so you can see where a lot of the inspiration for modern adventure/RPG games came from. I still remember playing this game as a wizard, and having my butt handed to me by a scorpion in the dessert, repeatedly, but that still happens in most of the games I play even today. I guess something things never change, just glad i can go back and play old games to drive the point home further.

Utterly fantastic! The combat, the new scenes, even an optional text parser for communication. I highly recommend this. I'm gonna buy their original Al Emmo as a show of support when I finish and get the free QFG2VGA cinema size poster!

Oh, and apparently their web designer was in XY mag! LOL
