Rumorama: New DS Hitting In 2009?

Kotaku has up a rumor being leaked from what they say are "several industry sources outside of Nintendo" saying that Nintendo is currently working on the next iteration of the Nintendo DS. Apparently the new model will contain the standard 'upgraded' items, better LCD, slimmer/streamlined form, but the juicy part is that they are saying that it will have touch input on BOTH screens, making it a Dual Touch DS. Sounds like a nice rumor, but that seems like all it will be for a while since they say that no announcement about the next model is expected to be made until the new year, probably to make sure that DS sales stay strong during the holidays or possibly due to the fact that the product still isn't ready. I'm just hoping that they don't decided to call it the Nintendo DT (or worse DSDT).

I can't see them adding touch screen functionality to the top screen until the next handheld generation, if then.
I kind of doubt the validity of this rumor about making the top screen touch-sensitive. If they did that, then new games designed with both touch screens in mind wouldn't be playable (or at least not all of their features would be implemented) on the current versions of the DS, which would really suck for the many people who already have a DS or DS Lite. As for a new version that is smaller or has nicer screens or implements some other upgrades that are not actually game-changing, I could definitely see them coming out with something like that.
