Sims 3 Gets Dated For 2009

EA has announced (at Leipzig, natch) that the Sims 3 will launch in February of 2009. The title will be available in brick and mortar stores as well as for digital download. It will feature a new game engine and various other features including: a seamless, open neighborhood, new Create-a-Sim, new unique personality traits, and new unlimited customization.
A Collector's Edition will also be made available on the same date that will include a Sims Plumbob USB Drive with matching Green Carabiner, a tips and hints guide, a bonus in-game Italian-Style Sports Car and more. If you pre-order at certain retailers you will also receive a pre-order bonus of an additional sports car and a poster of the new neighborhood.
This Sims is a game that hasn't really interested me in some time although I did enjoy the customization aspect of it in the beginning. The prospect of a new engine sounds promising and the the graphics have certainly undergone a nice upgrade. Whether or not the gameplay can retain a long standing interst remains to be seen

I've seen this story posted on Kotaku, Destructoid, and GayGamer, and its interesting to see the screenshot each site chooses to post with the story.
Kotaku chooses a nice, nonoffensive shot of a neighborhood.
Destructoid chooses a whacky picture of a nerd being menaced by a bully.
GayGamer chooses a gay gamer. :)
Awesome.
Psh, I would never wear that shirt with that belt buckle.
I loved the first one because of the available player-created skins. I had houses full of videogame characters, comic characters, actors and actresses and even an Alien from the movie with the same name.
Sims 2 however dissapointed, because I couldn't find any skins I wanted (I looked forever for a Zell skin) and the ones I did find and put into the correct folder never showed up propperly.
I just hope the custom content will be handled better in Sims 3.
