Swords & Soldiers Announced
RTS fans, I know what you are doing, just sitting there like bumps on a log, anxiously waiting for Starcraft II or Warhammer 40k to arrive. Well, I'm hear to tell you that there is a new kid in town, and he's not about established franchises, he's about fun. The game I am talking about is Swords & Soldiers that's an RTS game coming out on the WiiWare from Ronimo Games. You may have never heard of Ronimo Games, but you have heard of the game that the founders of the studio created called de Blob which was part of a University game project. De Blob got picked up by THQ and is due to release on the Wii in September, but the team behind the original game made their own studio in the Netherlands and started working on the RTS they always dreamed of designing.
Swords & Soldiers is a side-scrolling RTS game, in which you play as one of three distinct factions that are battling for the powers of the gods. From the screenshots you can easily make out two of the factions. One seems to be a Viking/Nordic faction with large axes and buxom ladies commanding the powers of the cold arctic winds. Another faction looks to be a Mayan/Incan race complete with blow darts and shamans caring with them the power of poison. So far two game modes have been announced for the game: a single player campaign and a split-screen multiplayer skirmish mode. I love the game's cartoonish art style and vibrant colorset, and I can't wait to see how the side-scrolling action works for an RTS game. UTRECHT, THE NETHERLANDS - August 15, 2008 - The developers of the original version of "de Blob" announce their new game studio Ronimo Games and their first title: Swords & Soldiers.Ronimo Games is founded by seven developers in Utrecht, the Netherlands. As students the team was responsible for the original pc game "de Blob". Being an innovative and fun game, "de Blob" became popular on the internet and was eventually picked up by THQ. The publisher bought the IP and will soon release the new version of "de Blob" for Nintendo Wii.
Fabian Akker, one of the co-founders: "de Blob was the eye opener for us, that we can make cool games and function as a good team. The game definitely gave us the opportunity to start our own company".The team is developing a new game for Wii Ware: Swords & Soldiers. Swords & Soldiers is a sidescrolling real time strategy game, in which three distinct factions battle for the powers of the gods. The game will feature a single player campaign and a competitive splitscreen multiplayer mode as well as several other game modes. Three screenshots are included with this press release.
