Video: Alter Ego's Creepily Realistic Facial Animations

Yikes! That is some crazy awesome animation right there. Alter Ego is the facial animation division of Pendulum Studios, and this is their reel of facial retargeting, whatever that means. I went to their website, but it's all crazy technical, and it scares me. Suffice it to say, they're really good at creating life-like CGI performances. Alter ego worked on the cinematics for Stuntman: Ignition, and is currently creating the real-time in-game cinematics for Dark Sector and Silent Hill: Homecoming. So the whole creepy vibe should really work in their favor on those projects!

I did notice Silent Hill Homecoming had pretty impressive facial animations. Wow, just wow.

I wish they'd use them though, but even recent games I've played feature bland, emotionless - if well-textured - faces. If they can boil this down so that script writers for the games can use simple commands to alter the expression of characters while delivering dialog, I'd be so over that!
