Video: Sonic The Hedgehog In The Most Annoying Cam Vid Of All Time
There's a lot to like in this shaky-cam footage of Sonic Unleashed from the Games Convention: blinding speed, multiple paths, no werewolves. There are also people walking in front of the camera, getting in the way and making you want to scream, "MOVE!" at your monitor. Until Sega decides to bless us with a direct feed, this is our best look so far at the gameplay in Sonic Unleashed, and while it doesn't look like it achieves the exact feel of the 2D Genesis classics, it at least brings back fond memories of the first Sonic Adventure for the Dreamcast.

Sure, it looks nice but every 3-D Sonic game has looked good in videos and pictures and then 9 times out of 10 still turns out to be awful. They need to take it back to 2-D because it's hard to capture the sense of speed in 3-D without basically just making a game that plays itself (i.e. the first level in Sonic Adventure that you could beat simply by holding down "forward" on the stick).
the only sonic games i ever liked was adventure 1&2 because of the adventure sonic is dead in my heart its so repetative
and linear change it up sega!
It looks alternately boring and needlessly frustrating. Judging from this video alone, the idea that it's going to revive the Sonic franchise is laughable. It doesn't even look like a game so much as a tech demo.
My major beef with the 3D sonic games has always been the staggering amount of time the "fastest thing alive" spends wandering around from left to right, unable to build up enough momentum to get any fun going. I can already see a taste of that in this new video. Here's what's going to happen when I play it:
Sonic will run down the hill just fine, bounce off the bumper, crash smack into one of the enemies, get stuck staggering around the ledge unable to get up to the next bit. Finally, he'll haul himself up, only to be stymied by a bunch of stairs that the game's just-baaarely-too-short jump will make frustrating beyond belief to ascend. Then he'll fall off that cliff and die. On the second run, he'll make it past the cliff, but instead of slamming through the sign, he'll hit it and stop moving in a really glitchy and obnoxious way that lets me know that if I'd just aimed a pixel left, everything would have been awesome. By the time he tries to run around the loops and falls in an obnoxious, drifty way with his little gloved hands wiggling over his head because the obstacles that came before sapped him of all his speed, I will be pawing through the couch in search of my truck keys to take this thing back to Blockbuster.
Ay ay ay, sorry could only watch 10 seconds.
Well, judging by that it is guaranteed to suck, and the Sonic fans will overrate it immensely, it'll pull in a 7.5 on IGN, obviously 3 points higher than the same game without SEGA branding and Sonic in the lead, like all the other ones have over there.
It looks marginally better than the Dreamcast ones, and it'll play exactly as badly.
It's looking a solid 4.5/10, like all the other ones.
Using this gens power, you can make spectacular looking 2D games, Bionic Commander proved that beyond doubt.
A current gen Sonic 2D would be awesome.
They should include this effect as "hard mode" for the game, as a feature.
Guaranteed to suck? You guys are evil. The only thing the original game probably has on this is the music. This new one looks wonderful. What more do you want? 2D? Is that all that matters? Then play the DS games.
What I want is an interesting Sonic game that is both fun to play and enjoyable to replay.
There are no [Literally, none, having played every single one] 3D Sonic games that even come within 50% of accomplishing either.
Surely you agree the new games aren't even 2/5ths as entertaining a the Megadrive outings?, which I still bust out quite often.
The Sega guys haven't got uncreative and crappy overnight, the ability to make a great game is still there, but this won't be it.
Wow, that was really...annoying.
