WiFi Shouts Of Joy For Culdcept DS

Culdcept_DS_Wifi.jpg

At the end of last year, Sega announced that they would be bring the Culdcept franchise to the DS platform. Now I'm not sure how many of you ever played Culdcept on the PS2 or Culdcept Saga on the Xbox360, but the game is basically a cross between Monopoly and your typical Collectible Card game. You move around a board and place monsters down on vacant spots on the board which can they be upgraded with house/hotel like features that other players must either pay a toll when landed upon or battle to gain control of the space for themselves. It's an interesting mix of a game and one that has a large cult following in Japan, and a decent one outside of Japan too.

Recently Famitsu put up some magazine scans of some of the multiplayer features coming to the game. The game will support the normal local wifi multiplayer battle as well as two types of Nintendo WiFi modes. One of the online modes will allow you to battle random opponents and the other will allow you to play with just your friends, pretty standard fare for Nintendo WiFi; however, the kicker comes in the screen shot above that seems to show that the game will also allow for voice chat among the people you are playing with online. Looks like voice chat is starting to become more common place in the online DS gaming.

Despite the downgraded graphics for the DS platform, the game looks (and sounds) like it will give true Culdcept fans the mobile fix that I'm sure that they desperately need and hopefully open the game up to a much wider audience. The only thing that worries me is that I never seem to get to a true 'finish' with my monopoly games; someone playing with me always seems to throw the monopoly board across the room in a fit of rage when they land on my hotel'd New York Avenue.

I've never played any of these games, but Poet's description has me interested. I'll have to look into picking one of the versions of the game.

Well at least I'll be able to play this one then.
Of course I might still find the PS2 one on Amazon, but I'm immensely annoyed that they won't bring Culdcept Saga out in Europe.
A horrible trend I'm noticing with the 360. Lots of tactical/strategy games just aren't being brought over. Spectral Souls and Operation Darkness come to mind as well.
Of course you Americans do get them, but Europe? Pff...

Nothing else matters now except to make sure this gets localized! I've been a fan ever since the first release on the PS2, and I was even an early adopter.
