Will Wright Totally Into 'Sporn'.
If there is one thing that must be said about the Spore and its Creature Creator, the thing has an insane level of flexibility when it comes to designing creatures. This is most evident in that it too no less than a day from the public release of the Creature Creator sexually explicit content (See: 'sporn') to appear. In a recent talk with the Associated Press, creator Will Wright discussed Spore and how he feels about this.
When you give players creative control, you have to expect they're going to do the unexpected, Some of it's really good for what they were shooting for. It's amazingly explicit, especially when those creations are animated. We just have to make sure those people aren't messing up the experience for others.
I'm glad to see he has a sense of humor about the whole thing. Honestly, I think it would be nice to have an 18 and up category that people could opt-into for their sporn creations. Hey, I want a planet composed entirely of penis monsters, is that so bad?

I think an 18+ opt-in would be a great idea.
The Sims and Sims 2 have always had a healthy amount of 18+ content. The big issue with Spore is that being an MSO game (massively single-player online, as Mr. Wright described it), the user-generated content is distributed automatically. Unless they can build in an 18+ opt-in area (unlikely, at least at the time of release), or a way to import out-of-game downloaded creations (also unlikely by release date), there may be no real option.
I'm all for keeping inappropriate content from minors, and giving parents the tools to do so. But to whitewash the world to make it kid-friendly is quixotic at best.
