8 Bit Rebels Interview World Of Goo's 2D Boy

8 Bit Rebels has a short but fun interview with both members of 2D Boy, Kyle Gabler and Ron Carmel, makers of the upcoming PC and WiiWare game World of Goo. The two seem pretty pleased to be so near completion, at least on these two versions of the game, and share a few details of the thought processes that go into releasing an independent game these days. Regarding the decision to go with WiiWare as opposed to a retail disc, Kyle elaborates:
As an independent studio, though, we like to believe digital distribution is the wave of the future, so we very much wanted to experiment with this new digital distribution thing Nintendo was putting together, the thing that eventually became WiiWare. Also, if I can rant for a second - there seems to be some expectation that WiiWare games are "smaller" game experiences than their retail buddies. We need to get rid of that expectation! We're going to start seeing WiiWare games that totally kick the asses of more expensive retail games made by big unapologetically crappy companies. The size, in bytes, of a game does not have any correlation with quality of a game. 4 gigabytes of crap, for instance, is still crap, just more of it.
From his mouth to Iwata's ears. Also in the interview, Ron praises Nintendo's "hands-off-but-helpful" approach to game development, and says that the Wiimote feels natural when playing World of Goo. They also admit that if control issues can be worked out, they'd like to see the game on PSN, but rule out XBLA due to Microsoft's "unfavorable terms."
Kyle also briefly discusses his Experimental Game Project clothing line, and says although the first run didn't work out so well for various reasons, he hopes to reboot the idea at some point down the line.
