At Long Last! SPORE!

A day I have been looking forward to for what seems like a lifetime is finally coming. Spore is being released in the U.S. on Sunday, September 7th.
I have had my copy reserved for weeks now, and I'm even driving into town on my day off to go pick it up. I imagine my sunday will be filled with many, many hours of creating my own little universe! I played the creature creator quite a bit after it first came out, but that's not really where the fun of the game is. The fun bit is creating your creatures and seeing them grow and evolve from simple tool using beasts into a race of mighty space bound men, exploring strange new worlds, seeking out new life and new civilizations...*ahem*...sorry.
Is anyone else excited for this game? Which platform will you play it on? Have you been reading some of the reviews out yet? Do you think it will live up to the hype?

Being in the UK meant i got the game yesterday.. Well, thursday actually - game preorders typically come the day before release.
I've been playing on my mac (which is fantastic, Cider works really well!).
The only thing i would say is that the civilisation stage is way too short - its by far the most fun section and seems to fly by.
The space age bit i'm on now seems very repetitive and boring, and i'm more interested in going back to civ and reforming my military!

I've heard very mixed reviews. But then, that's to be expected with a game that's been hyped as highly as this one. I'll reserve my decision until I've tried it. But I'm not too excited.
Securom is a dealbreaker. I'm never buying this game.
I cannot wait! Since I'm running Boot Camp, and since the disk includes both Mac and Win versions, I'll probably try it out on both platforms and see which one has better performance.
I've always been a fan of Will Wright's games—or rather his toys, as he calls them—because I love the open-ended nature of playing them. This one is ambitious, to say the least, but I have a feeling it will live up to at least most of the hype.
And yes, Securom sucks, but it's not going to stop me from buying a game that I like, particularly when that's the choice of the publisher, not the developer.
I'm pretty stoked for it, SuckuRom or no SuckuRom.
I too have been waiting forever for this game, and will be picking up the hard copy tomorrow, probably a few hours before my digital download is ready (it goes live at 1pm) - we're getting two copies because I hear it's only one sporepedia account per game copy, and my partner and I both need our own.
I was able to download the manual for the digital verison today, spent part of it reading. I really can't wait - and while the reviews seem to tend to the side of 'it's good, not great', I'm guessing way too many of them are rushing to get to space and missing out on a lot of the little things throughout the earlier stages.
Also, the 'pedia has grown exponentially once again, now we're over 5 million items. I expect 10 million by Monday evening. But at any rate, yes, I'm very excited for this game, and I plan on savouring it quite a bit tomorrow.

The Creature Creator is fantastic. It's possibly the most entertaining software toy ever.
Shame about the game itself.
I thought the era of bodging bad minigames together into an awkward lump died with Ocean, but no, here's Spore.
I would like to play it... BUT I would need a new PC again >.
@ securom:
no bad news on this site please, particularly relating to anything shady going on behind closed corporate doors. Unless you have pic of Larry Hyrb to accompany anything you post.
M$ kicked out Live users with the word GAY in their tag, but that's not cool to mention either here on Gaygamer!
Why would you think minorites (gays or gamers or whatever) give a shit about how Big Business treats us?
Spore is shiny 'n' new, please ignore the anti-consumer DRM, you big silly.
